Job Overview
With approximately 700 students of over 30 nationalities, DIS is an international school on a human scale and the only one with a French and multilingual curriculum in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, a city of seven million inhabitants which is in full demographic and economic expansion. DIS is proud to be one of the few schools globally to offer both the IB's Bilingual and Advanced Bilingual Diploma programs in a variety of languages. The full time IB Biology/ MYP Integrated Sciences teacher will provide instruction to students in Middle and High School. This position requires a specialization and experience in teaching IB Biology. Create lesson plans and teach those plans to the entire class, individually to students or in small groups. Track student progress and present the information to parents. Create and reinforce classroom rules and work with school administration. Create tests and prepare students for standardized tests. Manage students outside the classroom, such as in school hallways, detention, etc.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Manage an organized and professional classroom that is conducive to learning and development:
- Maintain complete and accurate records of each student’s academic development using both school wide and classroom based formative and summative assessments
- Plan, document, and carry out daily lessons that align to the curriculum and academic standards
- Recognize the needs of individual students and group at large. Offer support as needed using flexible groups, workshops, compacting and other differentiation models.
- Establish consistent and logical limits, expectations, and classroom routines for students to allow for maximization of learning.
- Maintain an organized and inviting physical environment.
- Handle stressful situations with grace, patience, understanding, and flexibility.
- Foster a cooperative and respectful partnership with DIS families:
- Maintain close relationships with parents, communicating on a regular basis.
- Facilitate parent-teacher conferences each semester, providing written materials as required.
- Encourage parent involvement through volunteer opportunities.
- Maintain open communication with families via teacher webpage, email, phone conversations or parent meetings.
- Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the mission, vision, and values of DIS:
- Model intellectual curiosity, exceptional character and civic engagement.
- Attend, participate in, and contribute to in-service activities and staff meetings.
- Participate in the development of curriculum and assess its effectiveness in the classroom.
- Consult appropriate school administration and specialists in a timely manner to address the needs of struggling and gifted and talented students.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share experience and knowledge.
- Continue intellectual and professional development:
- Observe the classrooms of colleagues as possible.

Skills Requirement

- Current or prior teaching experience at the college or university level to reinforce and foster school’s strategic goal of college placement
- Ability to function as a student achievement advocate, advisor, mentor and coach
- Outstanding listening skills, highly developed written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
- Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments
- Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner
- Ability to manage, delegate and monitor tasks
- Highly developed collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with and through others
- Ability to prioritize and to expend allotted resources in alignment with stated academic priorities
- Ability to work in partnership with others and coordinate a working team in the accomplishment of a project.
- Candidates should demonstrate flexibility in experience and teaching style compatible with a private school environment.
Must be computer literate and possess the ability to use education related software and databases.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Science and/or related field.
- Valid teaching certification in Science, Math and/ or similar credentials or experience.
- Three (3) years of IB Biology and/ or Science teaching.
- Must be specialized in teaching IB Biology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Biology, Science and/or related field.
- Five (5) plus years IB teaching experience
- Experience teaching in a multicultural environment.
- Some knowledge of French language is a plus but not required.
