The post holder will provide managerial, strategic and professional leadership to the Physiotherapy department ensuring the provision of a safe, responsive and efficient service to all stakeholders.
The physiotherapy service is aligned with the Rotunda Hospital's vision statement "Outstanding Care Delivered by Exceptional People."
The Physiotherapy Department aims to be a centre of excellence, leading the way in the field of Women's Health, Neonatology and Paediatrics by providing patient centred, innovative and evidenced based practice.

Candidates must have at the latest date of application:
B.Sc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Dublin Ireland. or
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) degree from the National University of Ireland or
Diploma in Physiotherapy of the University of Dublin or the National
University of Ireland or
A qualification in Physiotherapy at least equivalent to (i), (ii), or (iii) above or
Be a member of or eligible for membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists
And
Have a minimum of five years satisfactory post qualification clinical experience and have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to fulfil the functions of the role. To have a minimum of five years hospital or health service experience, in particular women's health and or/paediatrics
And
Desirable to hold a recognised Level 9 (NFQ) in leadership or management related to this role or aspiration to undertake same
And
Be on the CORU physiotherapy register (see below)
Annual Registration
Practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Physiotherapists
Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
Confirm annual registration with CORU to the Hospital by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and engage with families and external agencies.
Strategic Decision-Making: Ability to analyse complex information to make informed decisions regarding service delivery and operational improvements.
Problem Solving & Innovation: Flexible and creative approach to problem-solving, particularly when navigating challenging or changing environments.
Quality & Advocacy: Strong commitment to dignity, respect, and user-centred care, ensuring service users are active participants in their own care planning.
Professional Expertise: Maintains a high level of clinical knowledge, staying current with Physiotherapy advances through research, audits, and continuous professional development (CPD).
Compliance: Comprehensive understanding of relevant healthcare legislation, professional standards, and registration requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Physiotherapist Manager at the Rotunda Hospital is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the physiotherapy department, which currently comprises a team of approximately 11.5 WTE posts, including clinical specialists, seniors, and staff grades. The manager ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across the hospital's core specialties: obstetrics, gynaecology, and neonatology.
Strategic and Operational Management
Service Planning: Develop and implement strategic and operational plans for the physiotherapy service that align with the Rotunda Hospital's strategic objectives and national clinical programmes and National Women's and Infant Health Programme (NWIHP).
Resource Allocation: Manage the department's budget and resources effectively, including the procurement and maintenance of specialised equipment.
Change Management Leadership: Guiding the physiotherapy team through the cultural and operational shifts associated with relocating to alternative premises, ensuring staff engagement and the maintenance of morale during periods of organisational change.
Performance Monitoring: Record, analyse, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and Quality improvement projects (QIP's), activity levels, and service trends to hospital management. Contribute to the Rotunda's annual clinical report.
Policy Development: Establish and review departmental policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines to ensure safety and best practice in maternity and neonatal care.
People and Staff Management
Team Leadership: Lead and motivate a team of 15 staff, fostering a culture of open communication and professional respect.
Recruitment and Retention: Direct the recruitment, selection, and induction of new physiotherapy staff.
Performance Achievement: Manage staff performance, including the implementation of professional supervision, personal development planning, and addressing grievances or disciplinary matters.
Work Scheduling: Responsible for daily work scheduling, leave coordination, and ensuring adequate clinical cover across all hospital wards and clinics.
Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance
Professional Standards: Ensure all staff maintain professional competence and adhere to CORU registration requirements and the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) standards.
Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage risks within the department, ensuring a safe environment for both patients and staff.
Clinical Audit: Lead and facilitate clinical audits and quality improvement projects to evaluate treatment efficacy and enhance patient outcomes.
Case Management: While primarily a management role, the post-holder should be able to carry a clinical caseload, providing expert advice on complex cases in obstetrics, gynaecology, and endometriosis or Paediatric/neonatology service.
Clinical Specialty Oversight
Obstetrics: Oversee physiotherapy component of antenatal education. In patient pre and post-natal services. Outpatient services in Rotunda, Perineal clinic in Hampson House and community outpatient services.
Provide oversight for the physiotherapy service in the Postnatal hubs
Gynaecology: Manage services for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence, pelvic pain and those undergoing surgery.
Endometriosis physiotherapy service.
The Rotunda and community based Gynaecological services.
Managerial and governance responsibility for all physiotherapy services provided at and external to the Rotunda Hospital
Neonatology: Lead specialised physiotherapy interventions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) focusing on neuro development and positioning and handling. Key contribution to family integrated Care team.
Paediatric outpatient case load, MSK and neurodevelopment.
Education and Research
Staff Development: Identify training needs and facilitate mandatory training and continuing professional development (CPD) for all departmental staff.
Practice Education: Coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate clinical placements, often in partnership with institutions such as the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and Dublin City University (DCU).
Research: Promote and support clinical research and service evaluations to advance the field of maternity and neonatal physiotherapy.
