The 7th Grade Science Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-based science instruction that promotes student learning, critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving skills. The teacher fosters a positive learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of middle school students while aligning instruction with Ohio’s Learning Standards and district curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver effective science instruction aligned with Ohio Learning Standards.
- Develop and implement lessons that incorporate scientific inquiry, experimentation, and hands-on learning experiences.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate and timely student records, grades, and progress reports.
- Create and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
- Integrate technology and instructional resources to enhance student learning.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administrators regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development, instructional improvement, and student success.
- Participate in professional development and district initiatives.
- Supervise students in classrooms and assigned duties to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
- Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for middle school science instruction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards and best practices in middle school instruction.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements established by the district and the State of Ohio.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching middle school science.
- Experience utilizing inquiry-based and project-based learning strategies.
- Knowledge of STEM education practices and technology integration.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and differentiated instructional methods.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school environment for extended periods.
- Ability to sit, bend, kneel, reach, and lift instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate standard office and educational technology equipment.
- Ability to supervise students in classrooms, laboratories, hallways, cafeterias, and outdoor settings.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and through various communication platforms.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in a classroom, laboratory, and school environment.
- Regular interaction with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Exposure to typical classroom and laboratory materials and equipment.
- May be required to supervise students during non-instructional times and school-sponsored activities.
- Work schedule follows the adopted school calendar and contractual workday.
- Responsibilities may require flexibility to meet student, building, and district needs.
