The role of Aboriginal Mentor will be responsible for identifying and helping suitable students to register and participate in the digital foundation course. This position involves guiding and mentoring participants through their barriers to maximize participant engagement and achieve course completions, while working closely with program staff to explore further education and training options.
The role will involve working directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in years 5 – 12 in Dubbo and Wellington schools.
It will involve preparing and delivering in school sessions and potentially external activities that align with the interests, needs and constraints of the student participants and the schooling sector.
The role will involve working closely with school teachers, career counsellors, parents and face to face with students (individually and in groups) to achieve the goals of the Program.
These goals are centered on schooling attendance and completion, developing resilience, strengthening cultural identity, achieving work readiness, exploring career choices and developing a Career Pathway Plan for each Aboriginal student .
The Career Pathway Plan will align with their individual aspirations to achieve a successful transition to work or further education after school completion for all participating students.
Skills and Experiences:
- Ensuring the participation of local schools, Aboriginal community representatives, Aboriginal parents and caregivers, organisations, agencies and local business owners in various Hub activity and service delivery activities.
- Deliver the Sista Speak/ Bro Speak sessions to Aboriginal students in DHUB partner schools
- Maintain a respectful and trust-based relationship with community members,
- Incorporating local Aboriginal knowledge, protocols and practices in our activities
- Identify and promote employment opportunities
- Assist DHUB participants with training and employment activities that align with their Career Plan
- Be involved in the practical elements of pre -employment activities including digital literacy, job applications, mock interviews, job search seminars etc
- Respectfully identifies and assists with facilitating solutions to barriers to full participation for individuals
- Confident in working with individual participants and in delivering sessions to groups of participants.

Ability to take direction and provide regular data entry, reporting and feedback as required

Must have a car and Driver's License
