Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role
We have a permanent, fulltime (1.0) position in Foundation Pathways for a Kaiako/Tutor to teach on our Study and Employment Pathways programme (level 4). The role is suitable for either an Academic Staff Member or a Senior Academic Staff Member dependent on skills and experience. The position starts in January 2025 in preparation for teaching in semester 1.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $75.000 and $90.000, dependent on skills and experience.
The kaiako/tutor role is based at Wintec within Te Kura Pūtake Me Ngā Mahi Whakaako, the Centre for Education and Foundation Pathways. You will be part of a team that promotes ākonga centred learning to enable students to pathway with confidence to degree level study or employment.
Key teaching responsibilities include:
- Teaching level 4 hauora/health and human development. Topics include NZ health issues, personal health, theory and cultural perspectives.
- Teaching essential foundation academic study skills.
- Implementing effective teaching and learning strategies to support rangatiratanga and promote successful outcomes for diverse groups of students.
- Supporting equity for Māori and Pacific ākonga and familiarity with whanaungatanga me te manaakitanga.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- A relevant bachelor’s degree or post-graduate qualification in a health-related field, and an adult education qualification
- A professional attitude and well-developed interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for team collaboration
- A culturally responsive practice that reflects Te Ao Māori, Mātauranga Māori, Pacific worldviews and pedagogy
- Teaching experience and passion for ākonga centred education and competence in curriculum development and academic processes.
