Main Purpose of Job

The core purpose is to ensure guests receive friendly and efficient service in their assigned rooms and to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in guest rooms, public areas, and bathrooms, in line with hotel procedures. This includes communicating with guests in English, using their name, and upholding company grooming standards.

About The Role

Main Duties

  • Daily cleaning of allocated bedrooms, public areas, and bathrooms.
  • Maintain cleanliness standards set by the hotel.
  • Handle and use cleaning equipment and chemicals according to health and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure a high standard of personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Wear full uniform and adhere to grooming standards.
  • Communicate hotel services to guests upon request.
  • Maintain a friendly and welcoming demeanor, smiling and acknowledging guests.
  • Communicate in English while on duty, using the guest's name whenever possible.
  • Properly log and turn in any lost and found property.
  • Address guest complaints and questions appropriately, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Follow hotel policies and procedures regarding access to rooms and security.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and report any accidents.
  • Follow hotel rules and procedures consistently.

Other Duties

  • Participate in fire and accident drills.
  • Clean the smoking area, canteen, and staff changing rooms as needed.
  • Stock and tidy accommodation stores.
  • Clean and vacuum service stairs and lifts.
  • Attend departmental meetings and training sessions (e.g., fire safety, customer care, manual handling).
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the Safety Statement for The Ross Hotel.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by management.

Working Hours Shifts vary, including weekends and holidays, as per the hotel's operating schedule.

About The Company

The Ross is steeped in history and an integral part of Killarney. The hotel has been part of the Treacy family since 1938, when Marie Treacy purchased the hotel from her Aunt Julia O’ Donoghue (née Scott) for whom she worked for a number of years at this landmark Killarney hotel.

Marie ran the hotel tirelessly and successfully for over four decades until her son Padraig joined the family business in the late 1970’s.

Padraig and his wife Janet took over the management of The Ross in 1983, and the hotel was fully refurbished into its chic, quirky boutique style status in 2006. In 2009 Padraig and Janet’s daughter Ciara joined the family business and proudly runs the ship today.

Subsequently Padraig and Janet Treacy built a sister property, now known as The Killarney Park just across the road at East Avenue, which opened its doors in 1992.
