Join Stallion Express, a rapidly growing logistics and eCommerce shipping company dedicated to supporting Canadian businesses with reliable cross-border and domestic delivery solutions. Known for our innovative approach and exceptional customer service, we simplify the shipping experience for entrepreneurs. As we continue to grow through new partnerships and strategic investments, our finance team is evolving to support smarter, more efficient operations through automation and insight-driven decision-making.

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, systems-savvy Accounting Manager to lead our day-to-day accounting operations while driving automation, improving financial controls, and supporting strategic analysis. This role will manage a small team and play a key part in streamlining financial workflows, implementing automation tools to enhance efficiency, and supporting the VP of Finance in delivering accurate, timely financial data to guide strategic decision-making.

This is not a steady-state or maintenance role—you’ll be embedded in the operational heartbeat of a rapidly evolving logistics company. We’re looking for a candidate with a builder’s mindset who thrives in fast-moving environments where not everything is figured out. You should be comfortable taking initiative, identifying gaps, and implementing solutions without waiting to be told what to do. If you see chaos as an opportunity to bring order and efficiency, this is your ideal challenge.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounts payable processing across multiple banking platforms (e.g., RBC Express, BMO, HSBC).
  • Manage and mentor the Accounting Associate, ensuring accountability, accuracy, and professional growth.
  • Assist in preparing timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end Financial Statements under ASPE.
  • Streamline and document recurring accounting workflows to reduce manual effort and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on cash flow forecasting, capital planning, and decision support.
  • Support the integration of financial systems across departments and business units.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization, process redesign, and improved data governance.
  • Implement automation using tools like Dext, QBO, and integrations with warehouse and order systems.
  • Apply AI tools, SQL, Python, or VBA (where applicable) to increase efficiency and insight.
  • Enhance internal financial controls and ensure audit-readiness across all accounting cycles.
  • Perform trend and variance analyses across revenue, COGS, expenses, and margin lines.
  • Investigate anomalies, proactively surface insights, and work cross-functionally to resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate task delegation and workflow for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes.
  • Support audit preparation and ensure supporting documentation is readily available and accurate.
  • Review and approve daily transactions and vendor payments in alignment with internal controls.
  • Monitor and manage short-term and long-term cash flows to ensure liquidity and financial stability.
  • Oversee the uploading, coding, and review of invoices via Dext and ensure accurate data sync with QuickBooks Online (QBO).
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations (bank, AP, AR, intercompany, prepaid, accruals, etc.).
  • Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger and trial balance.

Qualification:

  • CPA designation (or in final stages of completion).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial operations.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory, senior accountant, or process optimization role.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASPE and financial reporting best practices.
  • Experience managing process improvements, accounting system automation, or controls redesign.
  • Proficiency in tools such as QuickBooks Online, Dext, Google Sheets/Excel, and online banking platforms.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with SQL, Python, or VBA and how they can be applied in accounting or reporting functions.
  • Exposure to multi-entity accounting, cross-border logistics, or high-transaction environments.
  • Experience implementing AI tools or automation in financial workflows.
