The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Deputy Commissioner, Management & Budget serves as the Chief Fiscal Officer of the New York City Police Department and oversees all Department budgeting, financial planning, procurement actions, and payments to vendors.

This position will focus on the financial monitoring of critical and complex contracts. This includes contracts over $1 million, and with multiple funding streams, that provide services to the Department where timely payment and contract management are vital. In this position, the Administrative Staff Analyst NMII will work closely with the Budget Management Division (Budget Unit, Capital Budget Unit, Grants Unit, Asset Forfeiture Unit. & Fiscal Control Section) as well as the Acquisitions Management Division (Contract Administration Section) to ensure contracts are funded and that encumbrances, invoicing and payments are all done in a timely manner. This position will also coordinate with relevant NYPD commands in order to evaluate spending patterns and evaluate the need for contract amendments or extensions.

Minimum Qualifications


1. A master's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field, and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management; or in a related area. 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity. Supervision must have included supervising staff performing professional work in the areas described above; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in the areas described in "1" above, including the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience, as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills


- Candidate must have the ability to review, compare, and interpret figures and data. - Problem solving and communication skills are needed. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required. - Working knowledge of FMS2/3, PASSPort, and lnfoAdvantage/Crystal is strongly recommended.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
