About the Role

This role will effectively contribute to the smooth running of the Emergency Department service by providing an efficient and timely administrative support function that is responsive and flexible to the changing needs of the service/organisation.


Our Emergency Department is an exceptionally busy service and provides care for thousands of attendees every year. We have a triage area, a rapid assessment area, dedicated resuscitation areas, acute, sub-acute and paediatric cubicles. Our department carries out all acute care, including full patient resuscitation facilities, management of trauma, fractures, injuries etc. The ED’s vision is to be a centre of clinical care and customer service excellence. We pride ourselves on having a strong focus on customer service and its success is reliant on effective communication and teamwork.

Te Whatu Ora - Southern has the largest geographical coverage of all the New Zealand regions, providing services to 350,000 people in diverse communities. About you

This is a fast-paced environment, and experienced applicants will thrive in this busy, front-line area of the hospital. We are looking for a new team member to carry out varied administrative duties to support the wider team, and ensure our department runs smoothly. You will be extremely resilient, display maturity whilst making sound decisions, and have a professional can do attitude in line with our values.

Naturally you will also have a friendly and welcoming nature and be comfortable interacting with patients and their whanau. As an experienced administrator you will be skilled at juggling multiple priorities, and able to remain calm under pressure.

Ideally you will bring the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience in a busy administration role
  • Be good at multitasking, and work well under pressure
  • Excellent word processing and data entry skills, with a strong eye for detail
  • A flexible approach with the ability to successfully prioritise your workload
  • Respectful nature handling confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings

Salary Range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi Public Service Association (PSA) National Health Administration Workers Collective Agreement and the salary will be in accordance with the National Health Administration Workers Pay Scale, Band 4A between Step 1 $70,970 and Step 3 $73,941 p.a dependant on relevant experience.
