Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for providing medical assessment, evaluation, treatment, and ongoing monitoring of individuals receiving substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment services. The APRN works collaboratively with the Medical Director, nursing staff, counselors, case managers, and other treatment team members to ensure safe, effective, and person-centered care throughout the continuum of treatment, including detoxification, residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessments for clients admitted to treatment services.
- Evaluate and diagnose substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Prescribe, adjust, and monitor medications within the APRN scope of practice and Arkansas state regulations.
- Manage withdrawal and detoxification protocols under established facility policies and medical guidelines.
- Order, review, and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and medical screenings.
- Provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services when appropriately credentialed and authorized.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment interventions as needed.
- Respond to medical concerns, emergencies, and changes in client condition.
- Provide education to clients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, recovery, and wellness.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, case consultations, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, licensing, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
- Collaborate with community healthcare providers and referral sources to ensure continuity of care.
- Support infection control, medication management, and client safety initiatives.
QualificationsEducation
- Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Arkansas.
Licensure and Certifications
- Current Arkansas APRN License in good standing.
- Current DEA Registration (or ability to obtain).
- Current CPR certification.
- MAT Waiver training preferred, if applicable to prescribing responsibilities.
Experience
- Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, psychiatry, primary care, emergency medicine, or related healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, withdrawal management, and recovery principles.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and medication-assisted treatment.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat a diverse client population.
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform duties in a residential and outpatient treatment environment.
Work Environment
The APRN will work in a substance use disorder treatment setting that may include detoxification, residential treatment, PHP, and IOP programs. The position requires regular interaction with individuals experiencing withdrawal symptoms, mental health challenges, and crisis situations.
