Korero mo te turanga - About the role

As a Policy Advisor, you will have the opportunity to create and contribute to high-quality policy advice that aligns with government priorities and Toitu Te Whenua -Land Information outcome areas. You will also engage in various policy projects and collaborate with central and local government on policy reforms.

This role offers a chance to apply your skills across diverse policy areas within a legislative reform programme. Our close-knit policy group works on a broad range of issues, providing opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in new areas.

This policy roles sit within the Strategy and Policy function that is responsible for driving our overall strategic direction and delivering on our policy work programme. Our three policy teams work collaboratively, so in addition to policy projects, you will get the opportunity to work alongside colleagues in strategy, regulatory stewardship, and research.

We have an exciting work programme that provides an opportunity to contribute to real change for Aotearoa New Zealand. Our work is delivered across four key pillars - Overseas Investment, Property Rights, Geographic and Property Information, and Maori and Crown Land. We are responsible for 15 pieces of legislation including the Public Works Act, the Crown Pastoral Land Act, the Land Transfer Act, and the Ratings Valuation Act. LINZ is also the regulator of the Overseas Investment regime.

He pukenga tou - Skills & Experience

  • Cabinet, Parliamentary and legislative processes and the functions of central agencies and reporting requirements,
  • A minimum of two years' experience working within a policy environment,
  • Experience working on Maori-Crown policy issues desirable,
  • Confident working alongside subject matter experts internally and externally,
  • An academic background that demonstrates that you are a critical thinker,
  • Initiative, curiosity, flexibility, and openness,
  • Able to communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly,
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders.

The expected appointed salary for this role is between $82,000 - $95,000 depending on skills and experience
