Are you passionate about global development, advocacy, and making a difference in the world? Läkarmissionen is looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to join our Advocacy Team at our Global Office in Stockholm for an exciting traineeship opportunity!


About Läkarmissionen/LM International

LM International was founded in Sweden in 1958 and is today an international aid organisation headquartered in Vällingby, Stockholm. We are present in around 30 countries and work on long-term aid efforts to combat poverty, with a focus on livelihoods and food and nutrition security, health, education, and water and sanitation. We also operate in fragile states and conflicts and provide emergency humanitarian assistance. We are now looking for a committed trainee to support our advocacy team in Stockholm.


Step4Life

Step4Life is the umbrella term for LM International's initiative designed to bridge the world of academia with the vital realms of development and humanitarian efforts. Geared towards accelerating the 2030 Agenda, the programme is committed to investing in the next generation of emerging young leaders. It offers immersive experiences that equip youth with the necessary tools to make impactful contributions towards our collective global goals.


This traineeship is part of LM International's global trainee-program Step4Life, TRACK 1: Academia.


About the traineeship

Duration: 20 weeks during the spring semester, full-time (37,5hours/week).
Location: Vällingby, Stockholm (with the flexibility for remote work a few days per week).
Languages: Swedish and English (both written and spoken).


As an trainee with Läkarmissionen’s Advocacy Team, you’ll develop skills in strategic communication and advocacy, with a focus on fragile contexts and boosting democratic participation among Swedish diaspora and youth. The traineeship will provide you with valuable insight and hands-on experience within the framework of Swedish development cooperation and humanitarian aid. Our work aims to empower individuals and communities to raise their voices, to claim their rights, and partake in decisions that may affect their lives or future. Furthermore, we aim to foster a more inclusive development and humanitarian sector.

You’ll join a dynamic, supportive team that values initiatives and new ideas. We work closely within the team as well as with colleagues in our Country Offices and local partners.


Your main responsibilities will include:

  • To support the advocacy unit in planning and coordinating events linked to external opinion formation and advocacy work within the framework of Swedish development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
  • To coordinate and support our mobilisation initiatives among young people in Järva and Botkyrka.
  • To produce strategic content aligned with our advocacy messages and country level programming, for our global social media accounts and traditional news media.
  • To represent Läkarmissionen at external strategic events within the framework of Swedish development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
  • Active representation and production of preparatory materials within our Global Advocacy and Communication Team, which includes representatives from the Global Office, Regional Offices and Country Offices.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a strong interest or experience in mobilisation and advocacy related to Swedish development policy, humanitarian aid, and global development.
  • Is a confident writer with experience of academic and/or creative writing and creation of social media content.
  • Possesses technical skills, including experience with photography and media production.
  • Is fluent in both Swedish and English, written and spoken.

Extra qualifications that are a plus:

  • Work experience or volunteering at an INGO/NGO within the humanitarian and/or development sector.
  • Experience of working or studying in developing countries.
  • Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Arabic, Kiswahili, or Spanish.
