Salary:
- Credit Authorization 19: Salaries typically range from $109,810 - $146,413 annually plus a performance-based incentive.
- Credit Authorization 20: Salaries typically range from $127,380 - $169,838 annually plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
- FinDev Canada headquarters is in downtown Montreal. For the right candidate, Ottawa or Toronto will be considered, with the flexibility to work under a hybrid model (home/office).

Position & Team Overview
The Credit Adjudication function is a Risk Management Team within the Chief Risk Officer’s group, responsible for detailed review of transactions with a holistic approach to objectively challenge and opine on financial and non-financial risks, balancing client solutions with sound risk management principles.
As a Senior or Lead Risk Management Officer, you will review transactions for all product types (including debt and equity), all sectors, and all geographies. You will support the development and oversight of credit & equity risk management strategies, policies, processes, and monitoring tools to ensure risks are effectively managed across all portfolios and aligned with the corporation’s risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and strategic objectives. This role also supports the second line oversight of market, liquidity, capital, and model risks. Strong technical skills are required for detailed review of complex transactions across all strategic sectors and markets, with the breadth of experience required to depict correlations, trends, concentrations, and emerging risks at the portfolio level.
What You Will Be Doing
Adjudication & Authorization Support:
- Level 19: Assist in reviewing and assessing financing and equity transaction proposals at origination, post-origination, and scheduled surveillance activities. Help balance credit risks, non-credit risks, and policy compliance.
- Level 20: Lead and oversee the review and assessment of financing and equity transaction proposals at origination, post-origination, and scheduled surveillance activities. Balance credit risks, non-credit risks, policy compliance, and providing expert guidance and recommendations to management.
Risk Analysis & Surveillance:
- Level 19: Support thorough risk assessments and credit surveillance for transactions and portfolio oversight. Ensure precise risk quantification, maintain detailed records, tools, and reporting.
- Level 20: Lead comprehensive risk assessments and credit surveillance for transactions and portfolio oversight. Ensure precise risk quantification, construct surveillance tools and monitoring reports, setting standards for the team.
Valuation & Risk Mitigation:
- Level 19: Support the evaluation of risk mitigants, structures, collateral, contractual documentation, transaction risk ratings, and valuation of equity investments. Develop a keen understanding of FinDev Canada’s product lines, industries, and markets.
- Level 20: Evaluate risk mitigants, structures, collateral, contractual documentation, transaction risk ratings, and valuation of equity investments. Develop a deep understanding of FinDev Canada’s product lines, industries, and markets, and mentor team members in these areas.
Transaction Summaries & Recommendations:
- Level 19: Support the assessment for transaction authorization summaries and recommendations. Contribute to informed decision-making processes that align with risk management frameworks, policies, and strategic goals.
- Level 20: Prepare comprehensive transaction authorization summaries and recommendations. Contribute to informed decision-making processes that align with strategic goals and risk management frameworks and policies, influencing high-level decisions.
Risk Management Support:
- Level 19: Analyze precedent and comparable transactions, conduct industry and country research, assess market trends and economic factors.
- Level 20: Share extensive knowledge of risk management and credit structuring with team members and business partners. Provide expert guidance on deal structures, credit risk acceptability, and policy interpretation.
Decision-Making Support:
- Level 19: Assist in making authorization decisions with detailed review of financial analysis, supporting research, and market analysis.
- Level 20: Make authorization decisions within defined authority parameters. Consider both financial and non-financial transaction risks to support sustainable growth, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and strategic objectives.
Guideline Development Support:
- Level 19: Contribute to the development and refinement of risk management and underwriting guidelines by providing insights and recommendations. Help ensure adherence to established processes and guidelines.
- Level 20: Lead the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines by providing insights and recommendations. Ensure credit practices remain robust and forward-thinking, setting benchmarks for the industry.
What We Are Looking For
Must-haves
- Completed bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in financing and equity transactions across diverse industries in emerging markets (Level 19).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in financing and equity transactions across diverse industries in emerging markets (Level 20).
- International experience relevant to FinDev Canada’s geographic focus (Latin America, the Caribbean, the Indo-Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa).
- Prior experience in risk management functions (second line of defense).
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent negotiation and risk mitigation skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Extensive experience reading and interpreting financial statements with strong risk analysis skills.
- Fluency in both official languages (English & French).
Nice-to-Haves
- MBA, Accounting designation, and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
- Proficiency in Spanish.
