Join Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW):
We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site Arborist in our Grounds department. This position is a year-round, nonseasonal, full-time with benefits. Arborist will Inspect, maintain and manage all campus trees and tree related issues. The pay for this position is between $17.36 - $21.75/hr.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Inspection and maintenance of all trees and tree related issues, including: hazardous tree evaluation, campus tree inventory, pruning, removal of dead limbs, tree removals, plant diagnostics (disease & insects) as well as integrated Pest Management (IPM) tree protection activities, natural disaster response & recovery efforts.
- Operate and maintain equipment used in the tree management program.
- Remove trees, including stumps if needed.
- Transplant trees and secure survival of trees through appropriate measures.
- Prune trees for various purposes including removal of dead and diseased wood, clearance, and thinning.
- Implement Integrated Pest Management Program.
- Prescribe and apply appropriate pesticides.
- Utilize computer to input data, generate reports and update information for tree inventory and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
- Provide input on scheduled maintenance program for landscape and implement as appropriate.
- Install and maintain campus Native Tree Walk on campus.
- Attend professional seminars to remain current in field.
- Perform snow removal duties. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- 3 years’ experience in tree care management (i.e., disease identification, pesticide application, tree removal, planting and pruning).
- Equipment operation skills (i.e., wood chipper, aerial lift, chain saw, etc.) necessary.
- Must obtain and maintain 3A pesticide applicator’s license within first 180 days of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain ISA arborist certification within 3 years of employment.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
- Must have valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records Policy.
