Job Summary
The Arts & Crafts Specialist is responsible for leading creative programming that introduces campers to a wide range of visual art activities, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and hands-on craft projects. This includes planning and teaching fun, age-appropriate activities, building confidence through artistic exploration, and creating an inclusive environment where every child feels free to express themselves creatively. The Arts & Crafts Specialist works collaboratively with counsellors, fellow specialists, and the Program Coordinator to bring visual arts to life at camp. They support campers of all experience levels, encouraging creativity, fun and participation.
Responsibilities
- Lead arts and crafts sessions that incorporate a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and mixed-media projects.
- Teach fundamental art techniques and skills while encouraging experimentation, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Develop engaging, age-appropriate activities, projects, and creative challenges tailored to different age groups.
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and imaginative environment where campers feel safe to try new ideas and take creative risks.
- Provide individualized guidance and encouragement to campers with varying comfort and skill levels.
- Collaborate with counsellors and fellow specialists to integrate visual arts into the broader camp program.
- Ensure safety, proper supervision, and positive behavior management during all activities, including appropriate use of art materials and tools.
- Maintain a professional, enthusiastic, and approachable presence with campers, parents, and staff.
Experience
- Experience in visual arts, fine arts, crafts, or related creative fields.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting.
- Experience teaching or leading youth in arts programs is highly preferred.
- Ability to create a fun, inclusive, and inspiring environment for children.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and support diverse camper needs with patience and professionalism.
Dates and Hours
June 30, 2026 - August 21, 2026
8:30-4:30, Monday - Friday
Job Type: Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months
Pay: $500.00-$700.00 per week
