About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Asbestos Analyst to join and help grow our Darwin laboratory. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in expanding our technical capability, strengthening our local presence, and supporting the continued development of asbestos and associated testing services in the Northern Territory.

In this role, you will combine hands-on analytical expertise with technical leadership — contributing to service expansion, mentoring team members, enhancing quality systems, and driving continuous improvement in line with ISO 17025 requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform and review complex asbestos identification in soil and bulk materials using PLM
Conduct and oversee fibre counting using PCM, ensuring precision and accuracy
Approve and finalise analytical results and client reports
Provide expert technical support and advice to clients
Lead internal and external training programs for junior analysts and clients
Administer and contribute to proficiency testing programs
Drive method development and improvements in asbestos analysis
Conduct internal audits and liaise with external auditors to maintain accreditation compliance
Mentor and support the development of junior staff
Assist with additional laboratory instrumentation and testing services as required
Maintain strict adherence to WHS, NATA, and ISO 17025 standards

Skills and Experiences:
About You

We are looking for a technically strong asbestos analyst who is motivated by both analytical excellence and the opportunity to help build and grow laboratory capability.

You will have:
A relevant science degree (e.g. Chemistry, Environmental Science)
Minimum 3 years of experience in asbestos identification and fibre counting
Advanced expertise in PLM and PCM
Strong understanding of ISO 17025 and NATA accreditation requirements
Experience in training and mentoring junior analysts
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
The ability to communicate confidently and professionally with clients and internal stakeholders
