Summary of Position
- Operating and maintaining heavy equipment to prepare surfaces for paving.
- Grading, leveling, and compacting dirt and gravel surfaces to ensure a smooth and stable base for asphalt application.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as bulldozers, graders, compactors, and rollers.
- Grade and level dirt and gravel surfaces according to project specifications.
- Compact and prepare surfaces to ensure proper drainage and stability.
- Coordinate activities with paving crew and ensure quality results.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to safety regulations and procedures at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directing, supervising and motivating the dirt crew.
- Training new crew members on proper dirt work procedures, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Effectively communicating with the crew, project managers, and other trades on the site.
- Identifying and resolving any issues that may arise on the job site, such as material shortages, equipment malfunctions, or conflicts among workers.
- Interpreting blueprints, site plans, and specifications to understand the project requirements.
- Planning and scheduling the dirt work to ensure it is completed on time and within budget. This includes coordinating with other trades and managing resources effectively.
- Enforcing all safety regulations and procedures on the job site to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Maintaining accurate records of daily activities, progress, and any incidents or issues that occur on the job site.
Needed Characteristics
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment, specifically in asphalt paving or dirt format operations
- Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Possessing in-depth knowledge of excavation, grading, compaction, and other dirt work techniques.
- Being proficient in operating various types of heavy equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, graders, and compactors.
- Understanding basic surveying principles and techniques to ensure accurate grading and excavation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
