Assistant European Controller

We are seeking an Assistant European Controller to join Sperry Rail (International) Limited on its mission critical journey to revolutionise the Rail Flaw Detection industry. Through the continuous development of cutting-edge diagnostic technologies and AI assisted analysis, we are transforming railway safety worldwide as the unparalleled market leader.

The role:

We are seeking a qualified and dynamic accountant to become our Assistant European Controller in a pivotal finance role providing support with all daily operations within Finance/Tax/Compliance, and to drive a culture of continuous improvement. This includes financial reporting, transactional management, tax, regulatory compliance and other financial related activities as assigned. Initial regions of focus will be our business interests in the UK, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Australia with additional regional assignments as determined by business growth and operational expansion. This role will work closely with the Managing Directors in the UK and Germany, the Global Controller and serve as liaison with external stakeholders and support management of key vendor relationships.

What you will do:

  • Have a hands-on approach to manage the month-end close process ensuring European support functions complete their required tasks to the agreed timetable.
  • Ensure all revenue and costs are recognised correctly in-line with contractual terms.
  • Provide all reporting, Flash, and Final to pre-agreed timelines, ensuring deadline are met even when local Bank Holidays occur.
  • Maintain an ABC approach to balance sheet reconciliations. Address any issues arising from the balance sheet reconciliations and clear within the following month.
  • Ensuring all banks are fully reconciled weekly, cash flows are prepared and FX risk is effectively managed.
  • Manage intercompany reconciliation process monthly.
  • Work with Senior Financial Accountant to ensure all VAT and Corporation Taxes are correctly processed.
  • Ensure all locally held accounts are reconciled to Sage X3 quarterly.
  • Update forecast monthly.
  • Ensure that all budget holders receive their spend reports, with briefings at the end of the month and understand the contents.
  • Manage team to agreed objectives ensuring they are fully trained and aware of their responsibilities.
  • Support the audit planning process and ensure all deliverables are provided within the agreed timescales.
  • Prepare statutory accounts from ETB to Filed accounts.
  • Consolidate multi-currency group.
  • Own payroll and pensions payment and administration.
  • Work with HR Manager to support payroll and benefits packages ensuring all polices are complied with.

Our Essential Requirements

  • ACA / ACCA qualified including current membership.
  • Strong FRS102 experience and aware of differences within all represented countries reporting requirements.
  • Successful track record working within a fast-moving multinational organisation, working within a matrix management reporting line.
  • Previous experience of working for a USA based head office.
  • Relevant experience in the preparation of statutory accounts.
  • Good knowledge of US GAAP (Corporate Reporting).
  • Strong leadership skill and a sense of teamwork with the ability to work well with colleagues in all disciplines and across all levels of the organisation.
  • Credible and confident communicator (written and verbal) at all levels of a business.
  • Ability to appropriately question, challenge and improve upon existing processes.
  • Resilience with an ability to keep calm under pressure and continue to follow the correct processes even under difficult circumstances.
  • Gravitas, with the ability to build strong external relationships to enhance and strengthen the company’s profile.
  • Appropriate and justified confidence in dealing with staff and customers, at all levels.
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to a high-quality service provision.

  • Excellent staff management skills with experience of dealing with a breadth of personnel challenges.
  • Strong analyst.

We Would Also Like:

  • Degree educated or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience of utilising Sage X3 ERP system.

What we Offer:

  • Monday-Thursday 8.30am – 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am – 4.00pm.
  • Hybrid working is feasible (2-3 days in the office) subject to the needs of the business and upon successful completion of a probation period.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £90,000.00-£95,000.00 per year
