Job Title: Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Essential Job Duties

• Maintain and inspect golf course grounds, landscaping, and maintenance equipment; monitor turf grass conditions daily.
• Identify problems and recommend solutions to the Superintendent.
• Develop and implement fertilizer, aeration, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs for turf grass care.
• Oversee chemical and fertilizer applications, ensuring proper rates and compliance with safety requirements.
• Assist in creating the annual chemical and fertilizer budget and turf management plan; implement cost-effective strategies.
• Conduct research, including soil and water sampling, and analyze results to evaluate the efficiency of chemicals and fertilizers.
• Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, soil and water samples, and maintenance practices.
• Manage employment activities such as recruitment, training, and performance evaluations for staff.
• Supervise and schedule daily operations for the Golf Maintenance Team, managing the department in the Superintendent's absence.
• Stay informed on industry trends through trade publications and associations.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, OSHA regulations, and safety protocols for chemical storage and employee/public safety.
• Conduct inventory control practices.
• Operate equipment related to golf maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of golf course maintenance experience.
• Degree in Turf Management or Agronomy.
• Strong water management skills and pest identification knowledge.
• Pesticide license preferred.
• Experience in agronomy, fiscal management, workforce management, and strategic planning.
• Experience managing cool-season turf in the transition zone is a plus.
• Problem-solving ability and capacity to handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.
• Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
• Knowledge of golf rules and gameplay.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Working Conditions

• Work hours include weekdays, weekends, and evenings.
• Exposure to both indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather, chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers.
• Potential risks include sharp equipment, moving machinery, and misdirected golf balls.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,181.00 - $60,000.00 per year
