We are a growing private environmental and engineering consultancy delivering hydrometric, water quality, and flood monitoring services across the island of Ireland. We work with public and private sector clients to provide high-quality environmental data that supports infrastructure development, compliance, and water resource management.
The Role
We are seeking a motivated Assistant Hydrometric & Water Quality Technician to support field monitoring programmes across Ireland. The role involves hands-on installation, maintenance, and calibration of hydrometric and water quality instrumentation, alongside data processing and reporting support.
Extensive travel and outdoor work are core elements of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, and maintain water level sensors, rain gauges, telemetry systems, and flow monitoring equipment.
- Conduct flow measurements using current meters and ADCP equipment.
- Install, calibrate, and service water quality instrumentation (multi-parameter sondes measuring pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity, temperature, etc.).
- Download, quality-check, and manage monitoring data in line with company QA/QC procedures.
- Maintain calibration records, field notes, and site documentation.
- Support flood event monitoring and reactive call-outs.
- Assist with minor civil works and site maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures when working near water and in remote locations.
About You
- Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Civil Engineering Technology, Geography, or related discipline.
- Practical, hands-on mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Full, clean driving licence (valid across Ireland).
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight when required.
- Previous environmental fieldwork experience desirable but not essential.
Certifications such as Safe Pass/CSR, First Aid, or water safety training are advantageous (training can be provided).
