About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to progress your career and obtain experience working as an Assistant Manager in the Courts & Prosecution Services Division of the Victoria Police Legal Services Department (LSD). Our vision is to be a centre of prosecutorial and legal excellence, with people who are recognised as being fair, just and valued partners in the Victorian justice system.

The Victoria Police LSD provides legal services and advice to support policing, courts, and the Victorian community. The LSD is led by an Executive Director (who is also the organisation's General Counsel) and employs over 800 staff spread across four divisions - the Office of the Executive Director; the Specialist Legal and Litigation Division; the Courts & Prosecution Services Division; and the Legal Business Operations Division.

This role focuses on managing the newly formed National Information Sharing Support Unit (NISSU) which is aligned closely with the Subpoena Coordination Unit. NISSU provides responses to orders received from the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia under the National Information Sharing Framework. The Unit will provide information to the various registries of the Court in each State from Victoria Police holdings. This vital information will greatly assist the Court in making determinations to ensure the protection of children and other vulnerable people where family violence is a risk. This role greatly contributes to the vision of the LSD by servicing courts and the legal system on a national level. Through the provision of information to the courts under the Framework, the VPS4 Assistant Manager will liaise with the various Judicial Registrars, Judges, and Justices of the Family Court to build Victoria Police's professional relationship in the family law jurisdiction.

The response to orders requires NISSU to review, analyse, and summarise complex and at times distressing family violence content. Recognition of this should be a consideration for the applicant when applying for this role.

The VPS4 Assistant Manager will report directly to the Senior Sergeant of the Subpoena Coordination Unit (SCU) who reports to the Inspector with oversight of the Disclosure Group. The successful applicant will work closely with the courts to develop initiatives that are aimed at providing continued excellent service while streamlining processes.

Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace and supports flexible working arrangements.

Your duties will include:

  • Liaising daily with the Unit Manager of the SCU to provide updates on responses to the court.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive statistical records to enable reporting through line management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses by team members to court orders.
  • Ensure accurate database recording of orders.
  • Monitoring the wellbeing of team members.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Initiative in developing people and processes.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, fixed term until 30/06/2027 position available.
  • The salary range for a VPS4 role is $97,955 to $111,142 (covering salary ranges VPSG4). Although it is standard practice for selected candidates to commence at the base of the salary range, genuine consideration will be given to a commencement salary within the available range that is commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills and experiences. This will be subject to negotiations with the Hiring Manager in the course of the selection process and may include the provision of evidence of a higher income and/or supporting documentation (as required).
  • This position is located at 456 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
  • The successful applicant of this role will be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 National Security Clearance. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • As a member of the Legal Services Department you will be located, on selection, at a specific office within a Division for a particular advertised opportunity. However, given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department. This supports the Departments commitment to a flexible and deployable legal workforce and professional development opportunities in a range of legal domains.

Your application must include:
