The
Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis
is an international highly regarded academic community of more than 100 employees, with around 20 professors, 10 lecturers, 20 postdocs, and 60 doctoral students. Our department has a welcoming culture which nurtures innovativeness and communication among our international and diverse faculty.
The department invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Operations Research.
The position is open to talented individuals who hold a doctorate in operations research or a closely related field and have excellent potential for a productive scientific career. With this call, Aalto University aims to strengthen its leading role in systems and operations research in Finland. Applications are welcome from all areas of operations research, including but not limited to optimization, mathematical programming, analytics, data-driven decision-making, stochastic modelling, and systems analysis. We seek applicants whose research and teaching profiles complement the department and strengthen the research area in systems and operations research by combining theoretical and methodological contributions with applied research.
The position is to be filled at the assistant professor level in the
Aalto University tenure track system

Your experience
Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to conduct and guide scientific research, to provide related higher education, to follow advances in their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field. We seek applicants who have:
  • A doctorate in operations research or a closely related field, e.g., (applied) mathematics, computer science or management science.
  • Potential to carry out outstanding research, attract research funding, and provide researcher training in operations research.
  • Interest in collaborating in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to become an excellent teacher in the BSc major on Mathematics and Systems Analysis and the MSc degree programme on Mathematics and Operations Research of the School of Science.
Applicants to this call are considered only for Assistant Professor positions. They will be evaluated based on their potential and demonstrated ability in research, teaching, academic service, and activities in the scientific community.
The selected applicant must have completed their doctoral degree before starting the position. Researchers with more than twelve years since their doctoral degree (not including relevant career breaks) are advised to seek more advanced positions. Professors in the Aalto tenure track system must be fluent in English to carry out their duties successfully. Finnish language skills are not required.
