Assistant Retail Manager For Our Garden Center

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Assistant Retail Manager for our Garden Center, with the goal of training into the role of Retail Manager. The ideal candidate must have a strong love for and knowledge of plants. Initially, this person will learn the day-to-day operations of the Retail department at Logee’s—including watering, operating the register, grooming plants, and developing relationships with customers. Once trained, they will take on key managerial responsibilities such as ensuring exceptional customer service, leading a team of 7–8 employees, and driving sales while maintaining a well-organized and efficient store environment. This position requires strong leadership skills, a genuine passion for both plants and people, and the flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions.

Basic Duties

• Over the course of several months, learn how to water 800 varieties of plants spread across 6 retail greenhouses.
• Cash out customers with friendliness and hospitality.
• Recommend plants to customers based on their skill level, home environment, and interests.
• Groom, organize, and scout for bugs on plants.
• Stock plants in greenhouses and hardgoods in store.

Duties Once Trained Into Manager Role

• Manage all aspects of store operations, including sales, inventory management, and customer service.
• Supervise and train staff to ensure high levels of performance and adherence to company policies.
• Lead weekly meetings and organize daily tasks for all Retail Associates.
• Oversee and participate in bug scouting, plant care, watering.
• Oversee cash handling procedures to ensure accuracy and security in financial transactions.
• Conduct regular inventory audits to maintain optimal stock levels and minimize shrinkage.
• Schedule shifts for employees, ensuring adequate coverage during peak hours while managing labor costs.
• Merchandise plants and hardgoods adjusting with seasonal demands.
• Create Retail-only sales for products that are not selling with pace.
• Communicate across departments about changes, processes, and any necessary troubleshooting.
• Update Retail Handbook as needed.
• Work with the owners and lead special events such as Rare Plant Day, Holiday Light Show, Valentines Sweetheart Tours and more.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 – 40 per week
