La Grotta del Formaggio is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager. Our store is a family-run, historic and popular Italian deli located on Commercial Drive. The Assistant Manager’s position involves the day-to-day operation of the store, exceptional customer service, inventory management, ordering products and supplies for the shop, staff scheduling, and coordinating objectives with both the Catering and Warehouse department of the business. The position is full time. The applicant should have at least one year of restaurant or store management experience. Experience working in a deli alongside a knowledge of Italian cuisine is preferred. The job will require some flexibility and weekend availability.

Full-time: 40 hours per week.

Reporting to: Owner and Manager

Responsibilities:

• Obrain full knowledge of the deli operations and work along side deli staff members preparing orders for customers
• Maintain price changes and the setting of retail prices to maximize profits while remaining competitive.
• Create and maintain the merchandising standards of the deli
• Supervising workflow, such as serving, packaging, coffee service and operating counters.
• Ordering food, sanitation supplies, maintaining food standards, and managing rotation to avoid damages or spoilages.
• Create Policies and Procedures to ensure the highest customer service standards are met by all staff
• Schedule and assign work for store staff on daily basis
• Manage daily activities of employees to improve sales performance and customer service
• Collect food safely logs from for Health Inspector
• Oversee the Occupational Health and Safety Program
• Create and maintain a safe working environment
• Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training all Deli Counter Clerks, Prep and Inventory Lead, as well as writing and administering performance reviews
• Assist in managing, writing, and administering disciplinary measures for all staff when required
• Handling customer complaints and training Associates to be able to handle complaints
• Counting and distributing tips to staff
• Working closely with, and training the Assistant Manager, to be able to take over when the Manager is not in store
• Ensuring that equipment is maintained.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $21.60 per hour

Education:

• AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:

• Square POS: 1 year (preferred)
• Retail management: 1 year (preferred)

Language:

• Italian (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

• Food Safety Certification (required)
