Salary:
- Associate - Investments 16: Salaries typically range from $72,840 - $97,121 plus a performance-based incentive.
- Senior Associate - Investments 17: Salaries typically range from $83,037 - $110,717 plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
- FinDev Canada headquarters is in downtown Montreal. For the right candidate, Ottawa or Toronto will be considered, with the flexibility to work under a hybrid model (home/office).

Position & Team Overview
FinDev Canada’s Investments Team is responsible for managing and expanding our portfolio of direct and indirect investments across our chosen priority sectors and our countries of operation. The Investments Team is comprised of sectorial and operational groups such as Financial Institutions, Funds, Sustainable Infrastructure, Blended Finance & Mobilization (BF&M) as well as the Portfolio Management Team.
The Investments Team’s core tasks consist of business development, transaction processing (debt, equity), and blended finance and is accountable for meeting FinDev Canada’s portfolio growth and mobilization targets.
We are seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join the Investments Team. The incumbent will work as an integral part of a team of professionals that provide support to the teams to manage transactions. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute their previous experience to the growth and development of the relatively new unit playing a key role in the evolution and continuous improvement of FinDev Canada’s practices and processes.
What You Will Be Doing
Participate in deal analysis:
- Conduct all aspects of financial transaction, due diligence, and analysis. Conduct and evaluate reference calls. Draft investment proposals
- Ability to identify early on the credit risks of a transaction and guide the team in their analysis.
- Ability to present the risks and mitigants internally, as well as identify and implement adequate mitigants.
- Proactively support Investment Officers in evaluating management teams, evaluate the management of portfolio entities, including assessing competitive threats and opportunities.
- Perform detailed financial and SWOT analyses; develop financial models, trouble shoot and perform sensitivity analysis for valuation, risk assessment and cash flow analysis purposes.
Support execution and monitoring of transactions:
- Manage internal closing processes and assist in executing transactions.
- Validate draw down requests, monitor compliance with Fund documents.
- Ability to review valuations, ensure the valuation methodology used is appropriate, interpreted and forecast valuation assessment and communicate this clearly to various internal committees.
- Proactively supports Investment Officers in monitoring the performance of the portfolio, and helps evaluate the management of portfolio entities including assessing competitive threats and opportunities;
- Draft annual reviews
Communicate proactively
- Maintain reliable communication with Investments team members and other internal stakeholders.
Coordinate with colleagues
- Work closely with social, environmental, gender, technical assistance, and concessional finance colleagues to add value to clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.
Build relationships:
- Collaborate with senior team members to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Coach/train junior analysts and associates in developing financial analysis, presentation, writing, and processing skills.
Participate in industry events.
What We Are Looking For
Must-haves
- Completed CFA, MBA, or MSc in Finance (or related) preferred.
- 3-5 years relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, or development finance institutions, with investment experience in financial intermediaries.
- Experience in investment transactions, with proven success in developing client relationships as well as sourcing, negotiating, structuring and closing quality investments (knowledge of and experience in emerging markets a plus).
- Robust financial and credit skills; sound business judgment, modelling skills and demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments.
- Proven ability to work independently and deliver promptly and efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel throughout the sub-region.
Nice-to-Haves
- Investment experience in one or more of the following sectors: renewable energy and climate finance, infrastructure, Agri supply chains, financial intermediaries.
- Experience working in emerging markets.
- Background in international and commercial banking, particularly with structuring experience.
- Experience with syndication/mobilization.
- Experience with blended finance/concessional capital.
- Proficiency in English, French and/or Spanish preferred.
