How will I help?
We are seeking a dynamic Associate Director to join our Institutional Banking team. Business and Consumer Group, Financial Markets sits within Westpac’s Institutional Bank and provides Financial Markets execution, advice, support, and risk services to customers across the Business and Consumer Divisions of the Group.
The Associate Director, Interest Rate Solutions provides proactive Interest Rate Risk Management (IRRM) customer engagement and execution across the Commercial Customer Relationship Management, Property and Regional & Agri customer segments. The role also provides customer engagement and execution of Tailored investment structures for our Corporate and Institutional Banking customers.
The Associate Director, Interest Rate Solutions will work with bankers to educate and inform customers of the suite of IRRM products available to manage interest rate risk. The Associate Director is responsible to managing risk across their customer portfolio including suitability risk.
Clients are likely to be medium to large enterprises, with varying levels of experience in IRRM. Effective communication and ability to engage customers and develop an understanding of their risk management objectives in a time critical manner is key to success in the role.
You will also:
- Employ a strong understanding of Interest rate risk management principles, deal requirements and products to exceed service expectations of customers and internal stakeholders, including customer relationship managers.
- Collaboratively manage a portfolio and regions term lending customers and tailored deposit customers (by phone, email and face-to-face), and support the National Interest Rate Solutions dealers as appropriate.
- Provide exceptional support, service, guidance and advice to customers and stakeholders and appropriately record customer interactions and advice provided.
- Display a deep understanding of the relationship between interest cost, gross sales margins, business industry and the potential implications of this on a customer’s capital base and EBITDA including any potential risk to lending covenants held with the bank.
- Grow the business by supporting customer acquisition and managing price and product distribution to achieve desired results for customers whilst improving business performance.
- Identify opportunities in your role to simplify practices or procedures, and lead change required to be better in your role
- Establish a regular, proactive operating rhythm to deal with key customer relationships in your portfolio.
- Establish a regular operating rhythm to manage key stakeholder relationships.
- Build relationships with customers and stakeholders to ensure they have a clear understanding of the Financial Markets (FM) model and the FM Value proposition.
- Take ownership of referrals and complaints from stakeholders, seeing them through to their conclusion and providing feedback to stakeholders on their progress.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in Business & Consumer Group team including other FX and Interest Rate Solutions dealers to promote a “customer first” and enterprise-led view of activity and behaviour.
- Proactively take ownership of actions and initiatives that lead to better customer outcomes, improved risk management or stronger performance across the wider business.

- Contribute to the strong performance of your allocated regions, team, the B&C business, FM and the Group.
- Comply with the letter and spirit of all Group and WIB policies, Dealing Room policies and the B&C handbook.

What do I need?
- Ideally 5 years plus experience in financial markets or commercial banking
- Relevant education and professional accreditation, including AFMA
- Ability to manage a high-volume portfolio of clients with demonstrable history of achieving sales objectives.
- Demonstrated capability in engaging with multiple stakeholders to achieve required outcomes
- Self-motivated / show high initiative
- Superior customer service and relationship building skills
- Ability to work under pressure and unsupervised
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- High level of PC literacy and Numeracy skills with attention to detail
- Understanding of compliance obligations and the B&C handbook in providing balanced and evidenced advice, with appropriate records kept
- Builds effective stakeholder relationships and influences appropriately
- Builds rapport with customers and assimilates information quickly
- Good attention to detail and able to make accurate decisions quickly
- Can operate autonomously, managing their own work output volume and quality

- Able to effectively manage self, to operate in a high intensity environment for prolonged periods.
