Purpose of role
The Sponsor Coverage Associate will play a key role in the growth of the GCIB Sponsor Coverage team and will support ongoing portfolio management of sponsor clients within Singapore and the broader APAC region where required. This support will be critical to their role, with a core focus on customer servicing and risk management.
The position is a coverage support role purposed to : (1) Support the Sponsor client strategy to align with the broader GCIB business strategy, cutting across all the product lines and client segments in conjunction with the Head of Sponsor Coverage; (2) implement and execute the clients’ solutions in close collaboration with the relationship managers, product teams and the business partners within APAC and with other regions. (3) This role plays an integral part in delivering the Bank’s products and services to the client by way of successful completion of a range of day to day tasks, including preparation of client presentations, contributing to customer account plans and any portfolio related work, and supporting the Sponsor Coverage team to manage new transactions on an end to end basis. In addition, the role holder is also expected to support with the origination activities, all whilst managing compliance with internal processes and policies.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic
- This role supports the ongoing growth & management of the Sponsor client’s Asian business. A proactive problem-solving attitude and high-quality standard need to be maintained and supported.
- Support the onboarding/origination of new sponsor clients as part of our local, regional & global growth plans.
- Contribute to creating and implementing the strategy for the GCIB with the relevant stakeholders (other regional coverage team, product and second line functions);
- Supporting in management of target clients through implementation of a deep account planning process.
- Work with product partners to market & deliver the Bank’s worldwide products and services.
Financial
- Provide portfolio support to achieve Revenue target at segment and client levels. The core role is to provide portfolio support to the Sponsor Coverage Team and assist them to achieve their financial targets.
Customer
- Support the Relationship Managers in managing customer needs. The role will require direct customer interactions as required from time to time to assist with ad hoc customer requests and liaising directly with clients.
- Support RMs in ensuring accounts plans are client solutions driven.
- Support in introducing clients to MUFG affiliates & partner banks; explore new opportunities as One MUFG
- Active involvement in Cross-Regional activities, by collaborating with local RMs/GRMs
People
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key product partners and across the broader GCIB network (including regional Institutional Investor Coverage and Portfolio teams).
- Connect beyond your team and leverage our global strength as One MUFG
Other/ Control
- Ensure adherence to all Regional/ Country Risk and Compliance requirements and the prevailing Regulations, resulting in zero regulatory or compliance breaches.
- Proactively identify and remediate risk and control issues (e.g. credit and operational risk inclusive of information security, data accuracy/integrity, and fiduciary duties
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls indicative of a disciplined culture that continuously strives to prevent unsafe or unsound practices.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum Degree in Business or Commerce or Finance
- Master of Finance, MBA or CFA will be considered favourably
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in banking
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in global institutional banking and credit research
- Experience in working across institutional investor, Sponsor client industry, Project Financing, Leverage Assets Financing, Fund Financing products and Global Market products.
- Good analytical skills and MS excel skills;
- Be able to engage in independent analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail;
- The ability and confidence to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally
