We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Porter to join our bustling auction house team. The Porter will play a crucial role in the efficient handling, movement, and display of a wide variety of items, from delicate antiques to large furniture, ensuring their safety and presentation throughout the auction process.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely and carefully move and transport auction items, including furniture, artwork, collectibles, and other goods, within the auction house and to designated storage areas.
  • Assist in the unloading and loading of items from vehicles, using appropriate equipment (e.g., dollies, hand trollies, fork lift) as needed.
  • Prepare items for auction viewings, which includes unpacking, positioning, and arranging them according to gallery layout plans.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of auction viewing rooms and sales.
  • Handle items with care to prevent damage, following established packing and handling procedures for fragile or valuable goods.
  • Support the packing and wrapping of sold items for collection or shipment, ensuring they are securely prepared.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of storage areas, viewing rooms, and outdoor spaces.
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks and minor repairs as required.
  • Follow all health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, specialists, and clients.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar role involving physical labour, moving, or logistics is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy and bulky items safely and repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Strong attention to detail and a careful, respectful approach to handling valuable and fragile objects.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently when necessary.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Travel may be a requirement, depending on sales.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Full driver's licence
  • Manual Handling/Forklift tickets advantageous- training can be provided

Physical Demands:

This role requires significant physical exertion, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and regularly lifting and moving items weighing up to [e.g., 50 lbs, 25 kg] independently, and heavier items with assistance.

Pay: €16.00-€17.00 per hour
