Full Job Description
Job Summary: To schedule new and established patient appointments. This position will have unrestricted access to protected health information (PHI) pertaining to their patients.
Essential Functions:
Accurately schedule appointments for orthopedic appointments using standard operating procedures and those unique to each provider.
- Correctly identify patient’s problem and schedule with appropriate physician.
- Obtain/update all demographic/insurance information for patients.
- Obtain all information required for new patient appointments, including, but not limited to testing, records, films.
- Reschedule patients as required.
- Read and understand the physician call schedule.
- Communicate directly with clinical staff regarding scheduling requirements.
- Provide outstanding customer service while acting as liaison between the patient, referring physician and our office
- Facilitate communication between the patient and office staff.
- Proactively anticipates physician scheduling needs and acts with appropriate sense of urgency.
- Proficient use of the computer to schedule/re-schedule/cancel provider appointments.
- Answer incoming calls demonstrating proper telephone etiquette.
- Receive patient information, calls or accesses website resources in respect to carrier documentation
- Obtain insurance verifications and authorizations from insurance companies via telephone, facsimile or online program
- Document eligibility and benefit information on insurance verification form
- Scan authorization and verification of patient’s eligibility and benefits
- Communicate with appropriate staff members regarding problems relating to patient’s eligibility and benefits
- Document all necessary patient information and notes in computer system
Minimum Requirements (education, experience, special skills and licenses or certifications required):
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Computer Literate – Windows environment
- Strong communications skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong customer service skills
- Preferred previous medical assisting/clinical experience or similar knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.
***Spanish speaking is a plus***
