Job Summary
UC Hardware Inc. is looking for a motivated and technically skilled Automatic Door Opener (ADO) Installer / Technician to join our Integrated Solutions team in British Columbia.
In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, wiring, setup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and servicing of automatic door operators and related door hardware at commercial, institutional, healthcare, and other project sites throughout the Lower Mainland.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, is comfortable working independently in the field, and has strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
Experience with automatic doors is preferred; however, candidates with relevant experience in low-voltage systems, access control, electrical, locksmithing, commercial doors and hardware, or similar technical trades are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, commission, troubleshoot, and service automatic door operators.
- Install and connect activation devices, including push plates, touchless switches, wireless transmitters/receivers, and other automatic door controls.
- Install and wire safety sensors, presence sensors, door contacts, relays, electric strikes, maglocks, and related low-voltage devices.
- Integrate automatic door operators with access control and other building systems where required.
- Perform low-voltage wiring and terminations in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.
- Install and adjust mechanical components, including operator arms, brackets, door hardware, and associated equipment.
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, wiring diagrams, shop drawings, and manufacturer installation instructions.
- Program and adjust automatic door operators to ensure proper operation.
- Test and commission completed installations.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, wiring, and programming issues.
- Ensure automatic door installations meet applicable safety requirements, manufacturer specifications, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate service and commissioning documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, electricians, access control technicians, and other trades.
- Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and company vehicles in a professional manner.
- Follow company and site-specific health and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean and professional work area while working in occupied facilities.
Qualifications
Preferred experience includes one or more of the following:
- Automatic door installation or service
- Commercial doors and hardware
- Access control systems
- Low-voltage electrical systems
- Locksmithing
- Electrical or electronic troubleshooting
- Commercial construction or field service
Candidates should also have:
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Good understanding of basic electrical and low-voltage concepts.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems logically and independently.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and quality of workmanship.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple service calls or installation assignments.
- Willingness to learn new equipment and technologies.
- Valid BC driver's licence and a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel to job sites throughout the Lower Mainland and occasionally to other areas of British Columbia as required.
Assets
The following qualifications would be considered strong assets:
- Previous experience installing or servicing automatic pedestrian doors.
- AAADM certification or previous AAADM training.
- Experience with automatic door operators from manufacturers such as Record, Horton, Assa Abloy, DormaKaba, LCN, or similar manufacturers.
- Experience with access control systems and electrified door hardware.
- Experience with relays, power supplies, electric strikes, maglocks, request-to-exit devices, and door position switches.
- Experience working in healthcare, institutional, commercial, or high-security environments.
- Knowledge of ANSI/BHMA automatic door standards and applicable accessibility requirements.
- Fall protection, WHMIS, first aid, or other construction safety certifications.

You don't necessarily need to come from the automatic door industry. If you have a strong background in low-voltage, electrical, access control, doors and hardware, locksmithing, or another technical trade and are interested in learning automatic door systems, we would like to hear from you.
