Bakery 2 Supervisor

Job Summary:


  • Day to day running of the production facility and operators on shift.
  • Key Performance Indicators in production including efficiency, conversion, variance and labour cost.

Role:

  • Oversee and manage a team/shift responsible for the entire bread production process.
  • Continuously assess, plan, and implement daily improvements in processes and practices.
  • Lead and guide production staff, particularly during evening and night shifts, where the production shift supervisor may be the most senior person on site.
  • Actively engage in daily problem-solving and participate in targeted process improvement initiatives.
  • Champion the operation’s Continuous Improvement goals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement among all shift staff.

Responsibilities:


Health and Safety

  • Ensure operations are compliant with all relevant health and safety.
  • Follow and adhere to any protocols to protect against chemical, biological or physical hazards, including following procedures and practices in place.
  • Oversee and document compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
  • Co-operate with the company H&S team to enable them to carry out their duties under the relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Take remedial action to resolve safety hazards when you become aware of them and escalate where impracticable to resolve.
  • Ensure that the process and the work activities are risk assessed, SOP’s available which are trained and communicated.
  • Observing the laid down systems of safe working and tasking necessary precautions.

Quality


  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to ensure adherence to quality processes and standards throughout production.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Promote a culture of quality by ensuring that operational teams understand the importance of quality processes and standards.
  • Ensure product quality control during the shift and throughout the production process, with full engagement in the Food Safety program if part of the HACCP team.

Process Management


  • Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve productivity and reduce operational inefficiencies.
  • Identify areas for process improvement using tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, and other process management methodologies.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline operations and increase output while maintaining quality standards.
  • Analise operational data to identify bottlenecks and implement solutions for process enhancements.

General


  • Manage all aspects of people management for the shift, including daily break coverage, holiday scheduling, disciplinary actions, and shift communications, as well as coordinating the shift's part-time workforce.
  • Monitor and address process issues in real-time, ensuring timely and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Report on shift performance, including efficiency, variances, waste, and downtime, and complete product efficiency files after each production run.
  • Collaborate with various operational functions, including Bakery & Packing teams, Goods In/Out, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Technical, and NPD.
  • Keep documentation and recipes current, serving as the link between your production team and other plant departments.
  • Conduct and participate in production shift handovers and briefings.
  • Identify and address specific issues causing downtime or inefficiencies through consultation with shift operators.
  • Represent factory management during evening and night shifts.
  • Close out all NCPs for the shift and manage any exceptions in product quality.
