Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor

Kings County Behavioral Health is seeking a motivated and experienced professional to join our dynamic team as a Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor. Under the direction of the Clinical Program Manager, the Multi-Organization Shared Telepsychiatry (M.O.S.T.) Unit Supervisor plays a vital role in planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the delivery of treatment, interventions, case management, and prevention strategies. This includes overseeing the work of Licensed Psychiatric Technicians and support staff.

The Unit Supervisor will also handle complex casework in areas such as mental illness, substance use disorders, and school-based prevention programs. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor, reporting to the Behavioral Health Program Manager or Clinical Program Manager, provides supervision of one or more units of Recovery Support Coordinators, Prevention Coordinators, and their support staff. Incumbents are responsible for the implementation of programs that meet State and Federal mandates for the Department and the County. Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor differs from Behavioral Health Program Manager in that incumbents of the latter classification are responsible for providing program management and contract and grant compliance support to the Director.

DUTY SAMPLE

Plans, assigns, organizes and directs the work of one or more units of Recovery Support Coordinators, Prevention Coordinators, and their support staff who perform treatment, interventions, case management and prevention strategies to children and/or adults with serious mental illness and/or serious emotional disorders; evaluates the performance of subordinate staff in the unit and recommends appropriate courses of action; participates in the training and development of Prevention Coordinators, Recovery Support Coordinators and their support staff; makes or reviews decisions on referrals and cases; carries a small specialized caseload; implements programs which meet funding and legislated requirements; interprets rules and regulations, and formulates sound programmatic recommendations; prepares program reports; performs quality assurance practices; monitor's unit's effectiveness and provides on-going input, feedback and makes recommendations for policy or procedural changes, improvements and protocols so that decisions can be made about organizational structure and practices; strategizes consumer advocacy solutions; answers correspondences; provides expert advise on program activities to staff and contracted providers; participates in various referral and case conferences that involve other units, community-based organizations, schools, and/or other departments; receives and responds to complaint calls; attends meetings, forums, conference calls, State and Association work groups, and other gatherings; acts as subject matter expert and/or Department representative for Behavioral Health services; serves on boards, commission, and or coalitions that support the mission and vision of the department; may write unit policies and procedures; and performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS **Minimum requirements must be met by the closing date**

Any combination of education and relevant experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in behavioral sciences, public health, social services, organizational development and leadership, criminal justice or a closely related field. (Substitution: A valid license as an RN, LVN or Psychiatric Technician issued by the State of California will satisfy this education requirement.)

Experience: Three years of experience in a public Behavioral Health agency comparable to or higher than a Prevention Coordinator or Recovery Support Coordinator II in Kings County; OR, two years experience in a California Behavioral Health agency comparable to or higher than an Unlicensed Mental Health Clinician in Kings County.

License: Possession of a valid California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.

Special Requirements: Ability to qualify for security clearance through a background investigation which includes fingerprinting; ability to attend evening meetings; requires frequent travel in-county and occasional out-of-county.

Desirable Qualifications: Basic computer operation and keyboarding experience or training preferred.

Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment including sitting at a desk working with computer equipment for prolonged periods, and travel for work purposes; hear and communicate orally in person, on the phone and in meetings; hand/eye coordination for use of computer/office equipment; visual ability to distinguish colors; regularly working with files and general office equipment; safely operate a motor vehicle.
