Biobank Technician

The Biobank Technician is responsible for logistics, handling and documentation of samples entering, stored and exiting IBBL. Under the supervision of the Biorepository Team Leader, s/he is also responsible for the biorepository area, its equipment, organization and compliance with quality system requirements.


Key Accountabilities

  • Perform a full range of operations in the biorepository: Management of biological samples, i.e.: reception, storage, retrieval, destruction / Production and assembling of collection kits / Quality control of incoming specimens and data / Consumables ordering and stock management / Recording/inventoring all samples in LIMS or other tools / Packing and shipping in compliance with applicable regulations / Management and use of environmental monitoring system / Management of IBBL storage devices including content inventories.
  • Participate in the writing of Work Instructions, Standard Operating Instructions, Nonconformity reports etc.
  • Ensure compliance of biorepository operations and equipment with QMS.
  • Communicate with staff at clinical and research sites to ensure safety and regulatory compliance, quality control and smooth transfer of samples and data.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree ideally in Biology or related field
  • Proficiency in the use of computers linked to technical equipment and in general office software (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Rigour, attention, high level of accuracy and autonomy.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage flexible missions (multitasks and multi priorities).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team-building spirit.

    Considered as assets:
  • Previous work experience in one of the following environments: an accredited environment / a blood bank or clinical laboratory / a general laboratory.
  • Experience in clinical trials.
  • Experience with biological samples’ logistics.

    Language skills
  • Fluent written and spoken French and English.
  • Additional fluency in German would be an asset.
