Job Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Boat Crew Members to join our team in a fast-paced cruise ship operation. As a Boat Crew Member, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional guest experience, while ensuring the highest safety standards. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a team-oriented atmosphere and are passionate about providing a positive guest experience.
Responsibilities
- Daily cleaning of boats, dock and maintenance rooms
- Greeting each and every passenger, assisting them on and off the boats and answering any questions they may have about the cruises
- or the area.
- Directing customers to loading areas between trips
- Scanning passenger tickets during boarding
- Maintain accurate passenger counts at all points throughout the trip
including transfer times.
- Monitoring Passenger Safety at all times
- Participate in all drills and demonstrations ordered by Captain and/or First Mate
- On occasion may be required to help with maintenance tasks on the boat including deep cleans, painting, oil changes, etc.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new staff
- Assisting with waste management and sustainability
- Perform other duties, as requiredExperience Is An Asset
- An interest in or experience working on boats is essential
- Knowledge of knot tying and deck hand responsibilities
Essential Requirements
- Dexterity and physical fitness ability to stand for long periods
- Exceptional Customer Service
- Superior Oral Communication
- Self-Motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to locate and find needed information without direct supervision
- Ability to work with others
- Punctual, meticulous and reliable
- Knowledge of the Tobermory area to provide customer service
Working Conditions
- Workweeks are 5 or 6 days weekly
- Shifts are between 6-12 hours per day
- No shifts begin before 7:30am or finish later than 10:00 pm
- ½ hour unpaid lunch break
- Frequent exposure to noise, a regular flow of people, and often rough waters of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron
- Reassignments during shifts
- Weather dependant shifts may be cancelled without notice
- Opportunity to work overtime, with paid compensation
- Blue Heron Company approved uniform must be purchased and worn at all times on shift
