We are looking for a teammate with about 25-35 hours of availability. Especially weekends as well as weekday evenings and afternoons.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Keep up-to-date on current books, especially small press, university presses, and/or local authors;
- Book merchandising (tables, shelving face-outs, etc) to best utilize space and feature titles on a weekly basis and touching up as needed;
- Come up with ideas for themed tables and displays alongside Visual Merchandiser
- Coordinate with Events and/or Ops Manager for potential ideas (book clubs, readings, discussions, bingo, book fairs, off-site events, open mics, etc);
- Work with the Ops Manager to plan and prioritize bookselling tasks and goals;
- Act as Leader on Duty in order to meet and exceed daily sales goals;
- Occasionally provide support for Bar 1 at the café (ring up customers, answer customer questions, dispense coffee, learn to pull a shot) when necessary;
- Oversee online orders (audit Surprise Boxes and Special Orders) and coordinate with the team on special orders;
- Ensure all online book and third party inventory that comes in during shift are processed correctly and in a timely manner;
- Train Leads and Associates on book genres, special orders, POS system, bookstore standards, etc.;
- Write/form employee reviews on a rolling basis (informal: 30 day check-in, 6-month check-in; and 1 year formal written reviews);
- Provide write-ups for new favorite books and/or recommendations on a monthly basis;
- Handle and diffuse escalated customer situations;
- Provide friendly, consistent, and accurate customer service;
15. Open/Close the store (cash register closing/opening, petty cash count, doors locking/unlocking);
- Keep the bookstore clean by creating a daily checklist for booksellers and ensuring they complete it;
- Take and relay accurate phone messages; and,
- Staff onsite and potentially off-site author events and book tables when necessary.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent;
· Merchandising and/or visual display experience;
· One (1) year customer service experience in a retail environment preferred;
· Supervisory role or some managerial experience a plus; and
· Must enjoy reading and be able to commit to reading 4 new books a month.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bookstore experience, including knowledge of integrated inventory control and POS systems
· Event Planning or related experience
· Experience with electronic cash registers, Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office software, and standard office equipment.

Working Conditions
· Retail hours: Nights, weekends, some holidays
· Frequent need to lift at least fifty (50) pounds;
· Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time;
· Frequent need for oral, written, and auditory communication;
· Frequent mobility to shelve and organize product; and
· Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions.
