Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Building Maintenance Person to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of our facilities and equipment through regular maintenance and repairs. This role requires a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently. The Maintenance Person will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and productive environment for all staff and customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks throughout the property, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs
- Respond to and resolve maintenance requests promptly and efficiently
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs performed
- Communicate effectively with tenants and management staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean work environment
- Complete work orders assigned to you on a daily basis i.e. plumbing, electrical etc.
- Coordinate and schedule required repairs together with the office administrator.
- Oversee and coordinate with contractors for larger projects
- Daily & Weekly inspections of common areas i.e. check exit lights & other building mechanics.
- Monthly inspections of fire equipment i.e. hoses, fire extinguishers, door closure and and generator.
- In this position you will also be responsible for the grounds and preparing vacant units for move-in's.
- Daily hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and on-call in the evenings. Weekends off (On Call remuneration).
- Travel to and from near by low rise building. (Mileage Reimbursement)
- Must have a reliable vehicle and valid license.
Experience
- Must have the following:
- Experience in building maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Require knowledge of HVAC systems including electrical systems, boiler systems, fire systems etc.
- Familiarity with electrical systems, mechanical systems, fire systems, plumbing systems including the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating strong supervisory skills when required.
- WHMIS Certification considered an asset.
- Computer knowledge considered an asset.
- Proficient in using Yardi
- Must be bondable.
- References required as well as a Police Check
This is a 102 - unit building with 8 stories of family & Senior apartments, including 10, 2-bdrm townhouses and 8, 3-bdrm townhouses. As well as a 16 - unit low rise, walk up that is 5 minutes away from the high rise.
