About the job

The Business Development Office (BDO) steers the IB’s efforts to grow the IB brand in line with its mission. The IB seeks to increase access to education for students around the world, we need alignment in developing IB’s services for the future, including new and improved products and services, as well as digital transformation. The BDO consists of five teams: Commercial Publishing, Communications & Marketing, Digital Services, Global Recognition & Product Strategy and Business Development & Conferences. This role sits in the Business Development & Conferences team, and the AEM Development Team more specifically.

This role has overall responsibility for designing and executing a comprehensive strategy for the following areas:

Promoting IB programs and expand the footprint of IB within a defined territory in the AEM region, with a primary (but not exclusive) focus on Francophone countries. The incumbent is expected to provide strategic direction for growth & promote IB to schools & groups of schools across all strands within that territory. S/he is expected to work closely with the Head of Development AEM and to support Country Development & Recognition managers (with French-speaking schools), support the development standardized marketing toolkits and campaigns, simplify processes and facilitate the removal of growth barriers, and actively promote IB programmes, up to and including the point of Applications for Candidacy submission.

In addition, the Development Manager works with the Head of Development to develop, evaluate and constantly refine regional growth strategy and measures the team against established targets. This includes ensuring that action plans/programme strategies are written, implemented and executed the Development Manager and Marcomms teams collaboratively.

The Development Manager holds and serves key recognition relationships, supporting the Global Recognition Team where appropriate in maintaining the established recognition relationships and founding new ones.

In addition, on issues within the defined territory the Development Manager serves as the liaison between the AEM Development and Recognition team and other IB teams, particularly the Learning and Teaching team, Global Recognition team, Global Conferences team, IBWS team, Communications and Marketing team and Research team, providing updates on programme developments and research, as well as acting as a go-to-person for any academic queries.

The Development Manager manages IB activity on a defined territory and provides guidance to the AEM Development and Recognition team on the development and recognition questions within the defined territory. The position is holder is expected to deliver year on year growth in AFC’s within the region, with support from the Head.

The Development Manager is also responsible of providing guidance and leadership of outreach events organized by the Marketing and Communications teams and/or AEM Development and Recognition team, or events organized by external stakeholders (where appropriate). In addition, s/he takes part in supporting the Global Conference team in developing and delivering an annual global conference that produces a significant surplus for reinvestment in regional and global activities.

Role and responsibilities

2. Strategic and action planning

  • Work with Head of Development to develop annual action/growth plans
  • Work with IBAEM Development and Marcomms teams to develop and deliver annual calendar of outreach activities.
  • Work with Head of Development to build annual fixed cost budget.
  • Annual growth plan delivered on time.
  • Annual budget delivered on time.

3. Account management

  • Serve as account manager/key contact for leads/schools/groups of schools, key recognition officials and IB associations within the prescribed territory.
  • Serve as liaison between the IBAEM Development and Recognition team and various IB teams and functions regarding the assigned countries.
  • Provide a central point of information for any academic queries for the IBAEM Development and Recognition team on Education matters in the assigned regions.
  • Documented guidance and support with the IB Authorisation process for interested schools/groups of schools to support the uptake of programmes and services.

4. Outreach activities

  • Work with IBAEM Development and Recognition team on promotion and events to oversee calendar of promotional activities.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of events and participate in the programmes to support outreach.
  • Serve as liaison with regional marketing to maximize impact of marketing efforts in the territory.
  • Serve as liaison with key associations of IB schools within the assigned territory to support their own promotional work.
  • Full calendar of promotional events and activities delivered and communicated.
  • Documented meetings with key IB associations within the assigned territory.

5. Represent IB with high level stakeholders

  • Represent IB in meetings with key governmental officials within the assigned and wider territory, as per Head of Development appointment.
  • Represent IB in meetings with key partner organizations and make strategic decisions regarding recognition with high level contacts.
  • Represent IB at key IB association meetings.
  • Documented number of meetings.
  • Results in terms of measurable growth, recognition improvement or support.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Fluent command of written and spoken English and French required.
  • Extensive business development and experience leading targeted campaigns, preferably in the education sector.
  • Relevant experience creating multiple strategic initiatives to increase performance & growth
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and assess market segments/needs and develop strategies to enhance service and revenue
  • Demonstrated skills as a collaborator as part of a team and also working and learning independently.
  • Being culturally aware and respectful, having a global perspective, and identifying opportunities for global working.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to work effectively with data.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to negotiate and convince.
  • Advanced degree desirable, but not required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IB, its mission and programmes desirable, but not required.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM software desirable, but not required.
  • Arabic, and/or Russian language proficiency desirable, but not required.
