Role Description:
The Design Consultant serves as the primary customer liaison, responsible for designing custom cabinetry solutions tailored to client needs while ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction. This role involves a blend of creative design, sales expertise, project coordination, and administrative tasks. A successful Design Consultant thrives in a customer-focused environment, drives sales, and demonstrates a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Sales:
1. Collaborate with clients to understand their design vision, functional needs, and budget requirements, conducting consultations both in-home and at the showroom.
2. Develop customized cabinetry designs using CAD software and other design tools, ensuring aesthetic and functional alignment with client expectations.
3. Provide guidance on materials, colors, and finishes, sourcing new products as needed.
4. Present design proposals and follow up with clients to finalize decisions and secure approvals.
5. Conducts final measurements after project is confirmed for order.
6. Drive sales by converting consultations into confirmed projects, ensuring a focus on closing ratios and client retention.
Project Coordination:
7. Conduct final measurements to ensure project specifications are accurate.
8. Review and confirm cost estimates and designs prior to order submission.
9. Maintain detailed and organized project files, ensuring all necessary information is accessible for pricing and manufacturing.
10. Coordinate with the production team, contractors, and management to align schedules, deliveries, and installations.
Customer Relations:
11. Foster positive relationships with clients, contractors, and team members, addressing changes and concerns with professionalism.
- Follow up at key milestones, including:
· After sharing design drawings (within two days).
· Post-installation (within one week).
· Periodic check-ins (6–12 months) for ongoing engagement.
13. Send personalized thank-you notes after project confirmation and payment.
Administrative and Showroom Duties:
14. Assist with administrative tasks such as typing estimates, managing communications, and maintaining a welcoming showroom environment.
15. Perform light cleaning to office areas and showroom to ensure they are presentable.

· Deals effectively with customer’s requests for information and need for clarification.
· Liaises with both customers and contractors, listening intently to their needs.
· Ability to maintain positive relations with customers respecting their tendencies to change their mind on a frequent basis.
· Sales-oriented mindset with a focus on closing deals and retaining clients for future business.
Communication Skills
· Effective verbal and written communications skills with both colleagues and customers
· Ability to prepare written materials and design ideas so that customers understand and can visualize the services and products
· Active listening and problem-solving abilities to manage customer expectations.
Organizational Skills / Project Management
· Exceptional attention to detail, particularly with measurements and documentation.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
· Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and complete daily activities according to schedule
Problem Solving
· Research new products and identifies those that will work for the customer
· Strong critical-thinking skills to address design challenges and client modifications.
· Flexibility to manage evolving client needs and shifting project priorities.
Creative Design Skills
· Proficiency in design software (e.g., Cabinet Vision, AutoCAD, SketchUp) to create functional and appealing designs.
· Knowledge of design principles, cabinetry techniques, and material selection.
Other
· Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to coordinate and meet a variety of business challenges as they arise
· Reliable, dependable, and punctual and takes personal pride and responsibility for the role and tasks of this position
· Sales focus mindset, closing ratios
· Retain clients for future projects and referrals
Essential Education and Knowledge / Skills & Other Assets
· High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in design preferred.
· Experience with CAD-based design software and general cabinet design.
· Proficient in word, excel and Google Drive applications.
· Ability to use general office equipment such as photocopiers, commercial phones, etc.
· Knowledge of general cabinet design techniques would be an asset
· Self motivated and the ability to work independently
· Displays a positive and professional attitude
· Excellent customer service skills and focus
· Ability to work in a team environment
