About the Role

As a Cleaner based at Camp Wyuna in Queenscliff, you will ensure our site accommodation, common zones, and guest facilities are presented to the absolute highest standards. Reporting to the Operations Director (and working closely with the Camp Manager), your role focuses on cleaning camp buildings, managing laundering, and preparing camp spaces between guest changeovers.

This position operates on a flexible roster aligned with camp bookings. If you take pride in creating an exceptionally spotless and safe space, enjoy active work, and love contributing to memorable camp experiences for school and community groups, we want you on our team.

What You’ll Do

• High-Quality Facility Cleaning: Perform general cleaning tasks across camp buildings, cabins, common areas, and bathrooms to maintain exceptional presentation standards.
• Laundering & Room Preparation: Oversee basic laundry requirements, safely wash linen, and periodically support the neat making of camp beds or adjustment of mattresses.
• Enforce Health & Safety: Ensure all work practices follow active OHS parameters, handle cleaning chemical products safely, and report any site hazards to maintenance staff.
• Efficient Changeover Turnarounds: Work efficiently under pressure to ensure quick and successful turnarounds of camp accommodation blocks between booking groups.
• Team Collaboration: Foster a positive team dynamic and support other camp departments where required to deliver a great experience for all camp guests.

• Physical Fitness & Stamina: Excellent energy levels and physical capability to easily complete active cleaning workflows and lifting tasks.
• Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to cleanliness, ensuring no corner is missed and spaces are always fresh and welcoming.
• Initiative & Efficiency: The capacity to follow clear instructions carefully while displaying personal initiative to manage tasks quickly.
• Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal communication abilities to connect positively with multi-disciplinary camp staff and guests.
• Reliability & Alignment: A mature, dependable approach to roster commitments, showing clear alignment with the profile and core values of the Y.

Requirements Before Commencing

• First Aid (HLTAID011 — maintained every 3 years) and CPR (HLTAID009 — maintained annually)
• National Police Record Check (maintained every 3 years)
• Working with Children Check (Employee Card — maintained every 5 years)
• Current Driver’s Licence and a reliable personal vehicle
• Meet YMCA ‘Fit for Work’ physical parameters (capable of active manual handling, lifting equipment, and standing for extended durations)
• Completion of ‘Safeguarding at the Y’ online course during onboarding
