In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Cancer Registrar Assistant is responsible for managing and maintaining components of the disease-related data collection systems, consistent with the professional standards and other accreditation requirements for cancer registry. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions:

  • Collects cancer registry follow-up information and maintains follow-up rates in accordance with accreditation standards and facility requirements. Obtains follow-up information per registry policies and procedures utilizing various clinical and patient sources, i.e. EMR, correspondence letters, etc. Inputs the follow-up information accurately and timely into the cancer registry database.
  • Coordinates Tumor Board Cancer Conferences: organizing activities for case presentation, agenda distribution, room/food setup, conducts videoconferencing, etc. Maintains reporting grids in a timely and accurate manner. Updates Tumor Board case presentations in the cancer registry database.
  • Performs cancer registry data input for abstract preparation and suspense file, as directed.
  • Provides support functions to Strecker Committee, as needed.
  • Performs general office support, as assigned.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate Degree in healthcare field or equivalent healthcare experience preferred.
  • Minimum of six months of experience in healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology is required.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft office applications skills.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.

Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
