Position Overview:

The Timber Carpenter/Timber Framer at Kamloops Truss Ltd. is responsible for constructing, installing, and maintaining timber structures. You will work closely with a team of skilled professionals to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. Your role is vital in upholding the company's reputation for excellence in timber craftsmanship. By adhering to established procedures, maintaining precision in your work, and actively participating in various tasks, you contribute significantly to the success of our projects and the overall growth of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Timber Construction: Measure, cut, and shape timber to specified dimensions using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines. Assemble and join timber components using various techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, dovetail joints, and other traditional woodworking methods.
  • Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to all safe work procedures and regulations established by Kamloops Truss Ltd. Ensuring personal and team safety by following WorkSafe BC compliance standards during all work processes.
  • Pre-Work Assessment: Participate in completing a daily Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA) with the supervisor before commencing work to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Quality Assurance: Verify the accurate construction and installation of all timber structures, ensuring they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintenance and Cleanliness: Assist in maintaining and ensuring the general cleanliness of work areas, including organizing tools and equipment. Follow lockout procedures meticulously during all maintenance activities.
  • Shop Organization: Contribute to shop organization efforts to maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free environment.
  • General Shop Duties: Be available to assist with general shop duties and regular operations as requested by the Lead Hand or Supervisor. This may include cross-training to gain knowledge and experience in various areas and providing relief to other positions.
  • Timber Product Finishing: Undertake tasks such as sanding, planing, and staining timber products to meet quality standards and customer specifications.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Timber Carpenter or Timber Framer.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to operate machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Dependable, punctual, and responsible.
  • Knowledge and understanding of job site safety.
  • Competent around tools, wood components, and construction/manufacturing.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Certification in carpentry or a related field is a plus.

Job Type: Full-Time.

Salary: $20.00-$35.00/hr. based on a combination of skills and experience.

Schedule: 8-hour shift - Monday – Friday, no weekends, overtime may be required.
