Job Description for the Position of HOUSING AND FRONTLINE SHELTER SUPPORT WORKER

Casual Position - Preferably one male and one female

REPORTS TO: Manager of Housing and Shelter Manager

DEPARTMENT: Housing and Frontline Departments

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Liaises with other community agencies and staff members.
  • Conduct intake interviews and assessments to determine clients' needs.
  • Assist clients in accessing case management services with case workers.
  • Facilitate group activities when required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records
  • Advocate for clients’ rights and needs.
  • Assist in daily operations, cleaning, and general maintenance.
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Keeps an accurate and up-to-date record of community resources for distribution to participants.
  • Engages in the development of inter-personal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Ensure compliance with shelter policies and procedures.
  • Support clients in developing life skills, such as budgeting, job searching, and personal care.
  • Provides practical/emotional support and advocacy as required.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of shelter residents.

Housing Specific

  • Coordinates and facilitates life skills programming for program participants including: financial literacy, employment skills, hygiene, health, food literacy, drug awareness, mental wellness, education planning, tenant’s rights, first aid, etc.
  • Occasional transportation of resident to appointments
  • Ensures that programs are operated in accordance with the mission and values of HHA, and with applicable contract(s) and or agreements.
  • Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports.
  • Performs required scheduled check-ins of clientele and follow-up.
  • Liaises with the participants’ supervising manager, probation officer, social worker, or other community services to discuss participant’s progress.
  • Ensures the physical and psychological needs of residents are being met through programming, goal setting and life skills coaching, etc.
  • Monitors participant’s progress and maintains relevant file information as per requirements.

Job Requirement

  • Start date As soon as possible
  • Location: In-person, Moncton Area, NB
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR is an asset
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check and Vulnerable Sector Clearance (CPIC) mandatory
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training considered an asset.
  • Class 5 License and atleast 1 year continous vehicle insurance for Housing Casual Position

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Courses, educational background related to the position is an asset
  • An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of prior related experience, including frontline involvement in a social service environment, considered an asset

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Ability to educate and/or coordinate with other providers on various life skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills for daily communication with clientele.
  • Note taking and file management.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to identify challenges, gathering all the facts of a person’s case.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to engage participants and refer them to resources in the community, journeying with them on their path to wellness.
  • Familiar with community resources.
  • Be a team player and a person with positive thinking to develop a good working.
  • French considered an asset.
