Description
About Mount View Estate
Mount View Estate is a premium winery and destination estate in the heart of the Hunter Valley, recently recognised as a finalist in the 2025–2026 Young Gun of Wine Vineyard of the Year Awards.
With a vineyard history dating back to 1971, Mount View Estate has a strong connection to Hunter Valley wine heritage, old vines, volcanic soils and thoughtful vineyard management. Today, the estate brings together wine, cellar door experiences, boutique accommodation, events, vineyard views and curated guest experiences.
As the business continues to grow, we are looking for a capable and commercially minded Cellar Door & Domestic Wine Sales Manager to lead our cellar door operation and drive domestic wine sales across direct-to-consumer, wine club, corporate, tourism and local trade channels.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands that a great cellar door is not just a place to pour wine — it is the heart of the customer experience and a powerful sales engine for the brand.
The Role
The Cellar Door & Domestic Wine Sales Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our cellar door, while also developing domestic sales opportunities across Australia, particularly within the Hunter Valley, Newcastle, Central Coast and Sydney markets.
You will lead guest experience, cellar door sales, wine club growth, customer database development, trade account relationships and local sales partnerships.
This role is ideal for someone with strong wine knowledge, hospitality leadership experience and a proven ability to convert great guest experiences into meaningful long-term sales.
Key Responsibilities
Cellar Door Operations & Guest Experience
- Lead the daily operation of the cellar door, including tastings, wine sales, bookings, POS, stock control and presentation standards.
- Deliver a premium, warm and professional tasting experience that reflects the Mount View Estate brand.
- Train and support cellar door staff in wine knowledge, guest engagement, storytelling and sales conversion.
- Manage walk-in guests, booked tastings, group tastings, accommodation guests and event-related visitors.
- Maintain high standards of service, cleanliness, merchandising and brand presentation.
- Handle guest enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally.
Direct-to-Consumer Sales
- Drive cellar door wine sales, mixed case sales, premium range sales and repeat purchases.
- Improve tasting-to-purchase conversion rates and average transaction value.
- Develop and grow wine club / member sales.
- Capture and manage customer data, including wine preferences, purchase history and repeat sales opportunities.
- Work with the marketing team on release campaigns, member communications and special offers.
Domestic Wine Sales
- Develop domestic wine sales channels across restaurants, boutique hotels, independent retailers, corporate gifting, tourism operators and event clients.
- Build and maintain trade account relationships in the Hunter Valley, Newcastle, Central Coast and Sydney.
- Identify new sales opportunities through local partners, private tour operators, drivers, concierge networks and event clients.
- Prepare and maintain a domestic sales pipeline and account list.
- Follow up sales leads, quotes, wholesale enquiries and repeat order opportunities.
- Protect approved pricing, discount policies and brand positioning.
Events, Accommodation & Cross-Selling
- Work closely with the accommodation and events teams to convert guests into wine customers.
- Support wine packages for weddings, corporate events, private functions and signature estate experiences.
- Assist in designing tasting experiences, wine inclusions and curated wine packages for guests.
- Help turn one-time visitors into long-term customers and brand advocates.
Reporting, Team & Compliance
- Prepare regular sales reports covering cellar door revenue, wine club growth, customer database, trade sales and sales pipeline.
- Manage cellar door stock, wine samples, staff wine allowance and inventory controls.
- Ensure RSA compliance and responsible service of alcohol at all times.
- Support staff rostering, training and performance management.
- Work closely with the winemaking, operations, accommodation, events and marketing teams.
About You
You are commercially minded, hands-on and confident dealing with both guests and trade customers.
You enjoy being on the floor, telling the story of the wines, leading a team and driving sales outcomes. You are equally comfortable hosting a premium tasting, following up a corporate order, developing a restaurant account, or reviewing sales results.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in cellar door, wine sales, hospitality, premium retail, beverage sales or tourism.
- Strong wine knowledge and a genuine interest in Australian wine.
- Proven ability to drive sales, not just deliver service.
- Experience managing staff, rosters, tastings and daily operations.
- Confidence engaging with trade customers, restaurants, retailers, corporate clients and tourism partners.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Good attention to detail with POS, stock control, reporting and customer data.
- A valid NSW RSA.
- Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and peak tourism periods as required.
- A professional, warm and proactive approach.
Highly Regarded
- Previous Hunter Valley or Australian wine region experience.
- Wine club or direct-to-consumer sales experience.
- Existing relationships with restaurants, retailers, hotels or tourism operators.
- WSET Level 2 or above.
- Experience with premium hospitality, boutique accommodation, events or destination brands.
- Understanding of Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Verdelho and other Hunter Valley varieties.
- Mandarin language skills would be an advantage, but are not essential.
Remuneration
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the right candidate, including:
- Base salary: $85,000 – $110,000 + super
- Annual performance bonus
- Expected OTE: $115,000 – $130,000+ depending on experience
- Travel / vehicle allowance for approved domestic sales activity
- Staff wine allowance
- Career growth opportunity within a growing premium Hunter Valley estate
Performance bonus will be linked to agreed annual KPIs, including cellar door sales, domestic trade sales, wine club growth, customer database development, guest experience, team management, reporting, stock control and compliance.
