The Better Business Bureau of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA) is seeking a President/CEO to manage operations and strategy across its 28-county service area. The role requires 5+ years of leadership experience working with a board, executive team, and program management.
There are 91 independently incorporated local BBB organizations across the U.S. and Canada acting as a private, non-profit membership organization. The BBB's mission is to foster trust between consumers and businesses by setting and upholding ethical business practices. They provide a public database of information on nearly 6 million businesses and charities, helping consumers make informed decisions.
Established in 1931, the Pittsburgh BBB serves 3.9 million residents and 96,000 businesses. Under an executive management team with over 44 years of combined BBB experience, membership growth increased by 26% between June 2022 and June 2025. The Better Business Bureau possesses a strong and steady financial foundation, reflecting sound financial management and ensuring long-term financial security.
CEO Job Responsibilities
- Guide BBB's strategy, aligning operations with its mission and values using BBB tools and marketplace data. Foster transparent board relations and open communication. Implement administrative policies for BBB Standards compliance. Inspire and develop the BBB team.
- Oversee all functional areas (marketing, sales, finance, HR, technology, staffing). Ensure legal, regulatory, and BBB compliance. Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and internal communications. Promote a positive, multicultural work environment. Increase efficiencies by standardizing technologies, programs, and services. Ensure high-quality service delivery while managing growth.
- Develop financial strategies for sustainability. Prepare budgets, manage finances, and handle forecasts. Ensure sound financial practices and reporting aligned with BBB and nonprofit standards.
- Build strong relationships with local businesses, government, and community organizations. Develop effective communications with BBB Accredited Businesses, creating programs for their needs, generating non-dues revenue, and enhancing accreditation value.
- Collaborate closely with the Board, support governance and decision-making. Help build a diverse, inclusive, and engaged Board.
- Cultivate a collaborative, ethical, and service-oriented culture. Provide leadership for a positive work environment. Promote professional development, retention, and succession planning. Establish personnel policies, including job descriptions and performance appraisals. Assume final responsibility for hiring, evaluation, promotion, discipline, and dismissal of employees.
