Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and comfort.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or memory impairments through tailored approaches like memory care techniques.
- Use equipment such as Hoyer lifts and assistive devices safely to transfer patients and prevent injury.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures like catheter care or wound management to prevent infections.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in acute care, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), emergency medicine, or behavioral health settings to deliver comprehensive patient service.
- Assist with medical procedures such as phlebotomy or basic life support when qualified, supporting overall patient health and safety.
- Document patient interactions thoroughly in electronic health records (EHR systems) ensuring accuracy and compliance with medical terminology standards.
- Support home & community care initiatives by providing compassionate caregiving in outpatient or post-acute settings for diverse populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
Skills
- Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges in settings such as long-term care facilities or assisted living communities.
- Strong familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient care activities.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for delivering safe patient care.
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and efficiently while maintaining patient comfort.
- Experience in specialized areas such as Alzheimer's/dementia care, hospice support, behavioral health, or sub-acute care environments is highly desirable.
- Competence in handling equipment like Hoyer lifts and managing infection control protocols within Level I Trauma Centers or Level II trauma settings.
- Excellent caregiving skills demonstrated through patience, empathy, and effective communication across diverse populations including children and seniors.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of medical records and sensitive information.
- Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments such as urgent care clinics or hospital medicine units while maintaining high standards of patient service.
