POSITION SUMMARY:

NPAA is a manufacturer of liquid coatings and surface treatment chemicals and is currently seeking a Chemist to join our Liquid Division supporting our Chattanooga facility. The Chemist position is responsible for testing, analyzing, and experimenting with existing products, and supporting existing and future business. This position will be also working hands-on with customers and is expected to support trials and make regular visits to check quality of product.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes standard laboratory equipment and procedures to plan, carry out and summarize experiments as assigned.
  • Handle chemicals and make paint batches.
  • Perform testing, inspection, and quality monitoring on paint and intermediate materials; interpret and analyze data.
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate information internally and with customers.
  • Troubleshoots product and process issues, identifies root cause, and implements action plans.
  • Assists in the preparation for internal and customer quality audits
  • Meets ISO/QS/Customer quality requirements and follows company standard operating procedures in all activities performed
  • Plans and participates with in-house and customer validation trials
  • Utilize computer software programs to manage experimental data and complete basic job functions
  • Follow internal procedures regarding 5S, safety, compliance, etc.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field, Chemistry preferred.
  • 2-5 years of laboratory experience, liquid paint preferred.
  • Preferred knowledge of OEM requirements and quality procedures.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Basic computer Skills, Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries, and/or complaints
  • Displays courtesy, tact and respect when dealing with others.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability to wear a respirator/all necessary PPE – including being clean shaven for respirator use
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork
