Chief Steward | Part-Time/Casual

Location: The Helix, DCU, Glasnevin
Reporting to: Events & Operations Coordinator

OVERVIEW

The Helix Theatre, located at DCU in Glasnevin is looking to hire chief stewards in a part-time or casual capacity for the upcoming season. Successful applicants will display strong skills within the realm of customer service, a kind, hospitable and proactive personality, strong communication capabilities and an ability to work within a team. The Helix is one of Dublin's leading venues for entertainment, and a position as a chief steward is vitally important in ensuring our patrons have the ultimate experience. On shift the chief steward will report to the Duty Manager, and work closely with the Helix’s team of volunteers, as well as other staff members in the box office and food service departments. Chief stewards, duty managers and the volunteer team are all overseen by the front of house manager. This position may suit individuals who are looking for a job that compliments their university studies, or for individuals looking for work experience in the events, entertainment or hospitality industries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

On shift the chief steward can expect to be responsible for the following items:

  • Completing fire safety walk throughs of the building and venue in use
  • Delegating volunteers to their positions as ushers
  • Ensuring safe evacuation of their assigned area in case of emergency
  • Assisting patrons with any and every request
  • Attend briefings and liaise with all staff members on shift at the Helix to ensure events run smoothly for all departments
  • Professionally yet personally communicate with promoters, stakeholders, delegates and guests to provide them with a wonderful experience

ESSENTIAL:

Successful applicants will demonstrate prior experience in a customer service position yet be open to learning in an active environment. Candidates must be able to work outside the scope of a regular work week, with late night and weekend events being a regular fixture in the Helix’s programming. It is essential that chief stewards maintain a professional, level headed attitude in a busy environment, and are able to keep calm under pressure.

DESIRABLE:

Own means of transportation to ensure ability to travel safely to and from work is something to be considered. Prior experience in first aid training or delivery is desirable however not necessary. An interest in the Dublin arts and entertainment scene would also be beneficial however is not a requirement.
