The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) is a child and youth mental health center integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). GH-CCMH is also a member of the Thriving Minds Mental Health Access Collaborative with CAMH and SickKids and a core service provider in the Toronto sector of infant, child and youth mental health services funded by the Ministry of Health (MOH). GH-CCMH provides prevention, early intervention and health promotion services across the city, funded by MOH and other sources. As such, the Centre has an ambitious agenda to provide the highest quality, evidence-based care, offering a range of services from prevention and early intervention to counseling and therapy, assessment and intensive supports. Services are offered in person and in virtual format. We are seeking applicants for a Child and Youth Care Practitioner, Relief position at the Intensive Services for Children and Intensive Services for Youth – Day Treatment program. This role will be responsible for providing direct mental health treatment services to children ages 6-12 and youth ages 13-18 with social, emotional and behavioral problems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Services:

  • Member of an interprofessional team
  • Provides clinical interventions and services for assigned children, youth and their families maintaining caseloads and supporting clients
  • Participates in the development and implementation of individual treatment plans for clients, assessing behaviours and responding to clients’ needs
  • Provides support in the classroom and leads CYCP-led skills based groups
  • Coordinates cases with family/caregiver/relevant service providers/service planning team
  • Creates and implements materials for clients/caregivers relating to strategies/interventions
  • Attends meetings with staff and families who may be accompanied by other staff or supervisors
  • Supports clients by facilitating social skills/therapeutic activities and organizing/attending events
  • Prepares documents/reports related to treatments plans and related activities, as well as consults with others, as needed
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of best practices related to clinical services
  • Makes decisions within related to day-to-day treatment issues and on-going intervention techniques
  • Understands when unusual or unique situations need to be discussed with supervisor/manager and or interprofessional team

Other:

  • Supervision of CYC students, if required
  • Complies with the organization’s vision, policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Child and Youth Care and a minimum of three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience working in community is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with at-risk children, youth & families, community partners and organizations
  • Understanding and analysis of issues of marginalization and oppression are necessary to work in this role
  • Member with the Ontario Child and Youth Care Association or equivalent association/ accrediting organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to deal with clients and families
  • Strong problem-solving skills to analyze client issues and recommend solutions and manage crisis situations
  • First Aid/CPR, and TCI required
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as ability to use office equipment efficiently (telephone, scanner, photocopier and fax)
  • Ability to engage in physical activities related to sports, board games, play based etc., and TCI training
  • Ability to travel to both SickKids CCMH Locations
