Job Title: Custodian/Sexton

Job Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Schedule: ~40 hrs/week; flexible, may include some evenings/weekends

Salary: $45,000+

About the Role - We are looking for a dependable, skilled Custodian/Sexton to care for our church facilities, including classrooms, sanctuary, kitchen, offices, and a daycare. This role is a blend of janitorial work and light maintenance, requiring someone who takes pride in their work and respects the sacred nature of the environment. You will work independently and alongside staff, volunteers, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily cleaning and sanitizing of all facilities, including restrooms, fellowship areas, kitchen, and sanctuary
• Routine maintenance: minor repairs, bulb replacement, wall patching, basic plumbing and electrical within skill limits
• Room setup and breakdown for worship services, meetings, and events
• Support daycare facility cleaning and maintenance in compliance with health and safety standards
• Monitor and report facility hazards; manage supply inventory
• Assist with exterior upkeep, seasonal maintenance, and contractor coordination
• Open and secure buildings per schedule; maintain safety and energy efficiency
• Maintain professional, respectful demeanor — especially during worship and religious observances

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of custodial or facilities experience (church and/or daycare setting preferred)
• Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; comfortable with bending, climbing, and extended standing
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); self-directed and reliable
• Must pass a background check per church and childcare safety policies

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a church, daycare, school, or historical facility
• Familiarity with childcare and kitchen cleaning standards
• Basic understanding of HVAC, fire safety, and preventive maintenance
