Major Responsibilities
- Under supervision, provide well-structured, well-supervised training and assignments for Parks Opportunity Program (POP) staff, seasonal and City Park Worker (CPW) employees assigned to the Randall’s Island Garage.
- Perform general maintenance work, including lawn mowing, edging, seeding, snow removal, cultivating, fertilizing, hedge trimming, sweeping, raking leaves, litter removal and emptying of receptacles. Provide instructions to assigned staff in assisting to carry out these duties.
- Clean and maintain various surfaces, facilities, garages and fuel sites including restrooms. Provide instructions for assigned staff to assist in carrying out these duties as well.
- Assign tasks in all subject areas and ensure that employees can perform duties satisfactorily. Provide regular feedback both to employees and supervision regarding employee progress.
- Inventory and monitor the distribution of tools, supplies and clothing to employees. Alert supervisor about status changes in inventory.
- Drive vehicles and operate certain other motorized equipment. Perform safety checks on facilities and equipment.
- Regularly report work productivity, performance and disciplinary issues, collisions and incidents to Park Supervisors. Take appropriate action, record activity and outcomes, run reports and schedule appointments daily.
- Help keep new/salvaged vehicle compound clean and organized. Assist with prepping vehicles for salvage.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualification Requirements
1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position.
2. A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required.
3. Ability to read and to understand and obey orders is required.
4. There are certain medical and physical requirements.
Preferred Skills
1. Strong organizational and leadership skills and ability to motivate a crew. 2. Excellent communication skills. 3. Good attendance record. 4. Demonstrate strong customer service skills.

Residency Requirement
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
